I Believe
"Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." ? Roald Dahl As humans, we are inclined to hold certain beliefs throughout our lives. As individuals, those beliefs vary widely. Many of us believe in God or a higher power; in a code of ethics or a way of life; in scientific theories; or in our families, loved ones, and friends. These beliefs mold us, shape us, and guide us, and they are essential components of who we are and what we do. Unfortunately, something that should be universally believed in isn't always on everyone's list, and that's the belief in oneself. While I was considering what theme I wanted LNL to focus on in 2014, I knew I wanted to continue to drive home the importance of confidence, hard work, and taking charge in order to find new success and accomplish new things. I reflected on my own experience as an Agent and what
Roger Smith
President and Chief Executive Officer 2 - torch December 2013 I believe
helped me succeed, even through my most difficult times ? especially through my most difficult times. Looking back, I'm positive that the driving force behind any success I experienced was the certainty I had in my abilities and in my future. I surely didn't have the experience and skills a lot of my peers did, so I had to rely on something else to bolster my career. My conviction was the fuel to my fire, and it is the reason I am where I am today.
has carried people beyond the ordinary into the extraordinary. It has been the foundation of scientific discoveries, gold medals, and historical movements and changes. It has made people transform their lives, and it has seen them through their most trying times. Belief is one of the greatest and most powerful things in this world, and it can profoundly impact your life ... if you're willing to embrace it.
I want to stress how essential it is to believe not only in yourself, but also in what you can achieve by grabbing hold of Liberty National's Opportunity of a Lifetime. I want you to abandon any doubt, any reservations, and any skepticism you may have and replace your disbelief with confidence. I want you to open your eyes to the immense possibilities LNL has for you. In 2014, I want you to wake up 365 days in a row saying, "I believe".
Ask yourself what it is you've always wanted to achieve in your career. An annual trip to Convention? A successful team? Your own Agency? Whatever great vision that appears in your mind's eye can truly become a reality if you are willing to see that vision as more than a possibility. See it as your future! And then get to work on making it happen.
I'm sure you were all told of the importance of believing in yourself from your parents, teachers, or other mentors. Maybe you even heard it too much, making the message lose some of its impact. But I want to remind you of just how vital belief is to your success in all aspects of your life. It is only through unwavering belief and confidence ? along with hard work ? that goals can be met and dreams can come true. I'm willing to bet the vast majority of the world's great achievers overcame their obstacles by their strong beliefs, even when the cards weren't stacked in their favor. Belief
I want to stress how essential it is to believe not only in yourself, but also in what you can achieve by grabbing hold of Liberty National's Opportunity of a Lifetime.
This is an exciting time for Liberty National. We are a Company that has thrived for more than a century, and 113 years after our inception, we are making our way to an entirely new level of success. If you want to be a part of this progress while advancing your career, then take the first, most crucial step and say those two important words.
I BELIEVE ... do you?

"DON'T STOP BELIEVIN'"
Just a small town girl Livin' in a lonely world She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy Born and raised in South Detroit He took the midnight train goin' anywhere
A singer in a smoky room A smell of wine and cheap perfume For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting Up and down the boulevard Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights, people Livin' just to find emotion Hidin' somewhere in the night
Workin' hard to get my fill Everybody wants a thrill Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win some will lose Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends It goes on and on and on and on
Don't stop believin' Hold on to that feelin' Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin' Hold on to that feelin' Streetlights, people

Jorge Arzate
Liberty National Director
I Know I Believe!
During the last 13 years I've been in the insurance industry, I've seen countless lives changed. The Opportunity of a Lifetime Liberty National offers is not only the opportunity of unlimited income, but an opportunity to believe in oneself and accomplish incredible goals. During the Fall Agency Owner Meeting, our CEO Roger Smith unveiled the `I Believe' theme for 2014. The theme stirred up a lot of questions and thoughts for me.
As we approach the end of 2013, we begin to make plans for 2014. We take time to set our goals and make resolutions for the upcoming year. As many of us look back and reflect on the past, we measure ourselves against the previous goals we accomplished and the goals we didn't reach. This process of reflection brings to mind an essential question: What makes a person believe they can accomplish their goals and then actually do everything possible to accomplish them?
Success starts when you say
"I Believe"and then execute your beliefs.
In The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader, author and leadership expert John Maxwell tells us "...ordinary people become extraordinary when they're fired up with conviction".
People with conviction and belief see things others don't, and therefore perform in ways faithless people don't understand. They take a system, improve it, and deliver results. Those with conviction push onward, engage, fight, and overcome obstacles. What about you? Do people see that same conviction in you, or do they see a faithless person?
One of the reasons I decided to join Liberty National was my belief in Roger Smith. I've been a Director for several years now and the last thing I want is for people to only respect what I did in the past. I want everyone to respect me for the belief and burning desire I have to become the CEO of a Torchmark Company. You can bet I'll work like no one else to get there, and I'll bring others to the top with me. You better believe it!
I think you'll agree with me when I say there are three types of people in this world:
1. Those who can see what needs to happen.
2. Those who can make it happen.
It's a question we toss around frequently during our executive meetings. From my observation, I've noticed there's one thing most hardworking people have in common, and that's conviction. Without conviction, belief diminishes, and you might as well pack your bags and go home.
When I was in the United States Coast Guard, I saw how someone with conviction could go from ordinary to extraordinary. Do you have conviction to be as successful as your Liberty National leaders? What are your convictions? What are your beliefs?
3. Those who can make things happen when it really counts.
Which type of person are you? Take time to analyze yourself and determine which type of person and leader you are. Make the adjustments required to ensure success! We learn from those who have paved the road before us and given us the confidence we need to accomplish big dreams. Success starts when you say "I Believe" and then execute your beliefs.
I believe 2014 is going to be one of the best years yet for Liberty National. Everyone is ready for it. When everyone is working collectively towards one goal, big things really happen!
