Charter Design GuidelinesRoyal Scribe HL Margaret Fae (Lady Fae)margaret_fae@ 7365 Radius Lp Se Lacey, Wa 98513Margaret Fae (facebook)StyleHis Majesty Savaric is 12th c. Norman, and Her Majesty Dalla is 10-11th c. Norse. Designs within this style are most welcome. However, any region and time period will be accepted. TRMs would like clean and classic designs that are not cluttered but have visual points of interest.IMPORTANT!!! Please inform the Royal Scribe of the charter type you are intending to design so that we can make sure we have a good selection of styles. Optional design elementsTRMs have several personal elements they would like to see reflected in the artwork where possible. From HM Dalla: pretty, (young-ish)women/Dalla Herself, a chickadee, elements from Her device, their dog*. From HM Savaric: a fox, His cool helm, elements from His device, their dog.*Their dog is a lovely Golden Pyrenees.SizeThe Charter Master must be created on 11 x 17 or 8.5 x 11 white paper and final linework and calligraphy must be black. The dimensions of the larger designs (including margins) must measure 11” x 14” (this will leave 3" of space on the bottom of paper). Within the design leave a 1” inch margin on the top and on both sides, and 1? “ to 1?” margin on the bottom to facilitate framing. Do not extend any artwork into these margins under any circumstances.Use the 3 inch Leftover Space - on the 11 x 17 Master – for information or instructions to the Royal Scribe and/or the illuminators if needed. Also use this space to site sources if applicable. Use a seperate piece of paper for the 8.5 x 11 Master.SealsSeals vary in exact size. Include either a 3 1/2" diameter space designated for the Kingdom Seal, or a 2” diameter space designated for the Royal Signet Ring Seal, and clearly mark the location of the seal with a small “seal”, +, or "signant".**DO NOT draw circles for the seals unless it is part of the design motif – simply allocate a suitable area to accommodate the seal. TextContact the Royal Scribe for approved text. The calligraphic hand should be consistent with the culture and period style of the illustration and must be carefully lettered so as to be uniform, even and neat. Do NOT use a foreign calligraphic hand or simulated foreign hand unless you have permission to do so. If you are permitted to do so, include the full alphabet key in the 3” leftover space. All calligraphy must be legible. If you have crafted a really smashing design, but can't do the calligraphy and can't find someone to do it, please contact the Royal Scribe.A printed copy of the text chosen as well as a Scribal Art Release Form should accompany each Master that is submitted. The form is attached or online at ! If you are using runes please use Younger Futhark as per the runic alphabet reference sheet below. Runic Alphabet The IllustrationLineweights (width of the drawn lines) should be strong enough to create a perfect copy, but not so strong as to actually look like a child’s color book page. Linework should be crisp and continuous and not appear to be sketched. The illustration should have strong, clear paintable elements and should NOT include fine and dainty detail (be mindful of the illuminator’s task). Do NOT fill in or shade areas in your illustration. The culture and period style of the illustration should be consistent with the calligraphic hand. The Master must be clean of any blemish that might transfer to the photocopied blanks. IMPORTANT! Goutte de Sang and Jambe de Lion charters must include the Badge of the Order as a design element – but do NOT include any other registered Kingdom or Personal Heraldry. Names, Dates, and SignaturesPlease remember to leave enough room for recipient names – a full blank line is advisable.A blank text space large enough to letter the award Date: month, day, year and year descriptor (A.S. or Anno Societatis) must be provided – do NOT letter in the year. Please follow the date format in each award text. **design trick: September 27th is the longest date of the year**Designate space for Their Royal Majesty's signatures, but do NOT write their names. ................
