|Time Frame: |30 minutes |

|Procedure: |Invite a student up to help you make the perfect paper airplane. Ask the student to give directions while you |

| |follow them. However, don’t follow any of their directions-fold the paper wrong, rip it, tear it in half. Then|

| |complain that the student didn’t help you at all. |

| |Engage the whole class in a discussion of why this didn’t work. Lead them to the conclusion that no paper |

| |airplane is a direct consequence of your lack of compliance. |

| |Read Sideways Stories from Wayside School, chapter 27: Joy. |

| |Discuss what the consequences of her actions were. |

| |Write the following scenarios on the board and brainstorm consequences for each. |
