Place Value Game - Pitt County Schools

Place Value Game

Use cards Ace through 9 (ace = 1). After shuffling, deal out 2 cards per player. Each player arranges the cards side by side to create the highest 2-digit number possible. Then each player practices “reading” the number aloud correctly. For example, 47 would be “forty-seven”. After saying it correctly, the player with the highest number wins.

As your child learns more, try 3-digit numbers going into the hundreds and 4-digit numbers going into the thousands!

Imaginary Number Line

Use cards Ace through 9 (ace = 1). Stack the cards in the middle of the table. Taking turns, have each player draw a card and place it in front of them on an imaginary number line. Continue taking turns drawing cards and placing them in order along the “line”. If you get a duplicate, place it in a discard pile. The first person who has a completed 1 – 9 number line wins!

Guess My Pattern

Using buttons, coins, colored sticks, or M&M’s, one player lays the objects out in a line, creating a pattern.

For example, the pattern may go like this:

red, red, yellow, blue, red, red, yellow, blue, red …

see if the next player can tell which color comes next!

Daily Life: Parents – remember that anything using sorting, weighing, measuring and reading temperatures all relate to Math!
