Students will be able to share their knowledge of letters and sounds and demonstrate their knowledge about letters and their correct sound through individual work, small

group projects and whole group activites and assessments.

Differentiation Strategies (2 points):

I will use picture cards and letter match, multiple uses of technology (whole group sing along, presentations, and group work), manipulatives, small group rotations, small

group projects and presentation, white boards, beginning sound puzzles, decodable readers (on different levels), and alphabet ring.

ENGAGEMENT (18 points):

Daily Youtube Videos:

(Teach Me How to Read)

(Have Fun Teaching Alphabet song)

Day 1 Videos:

(Letter L song by Have Fun Teaching)

(Letter L song by ABC Mouse)

Day 2 Videos:

(Letter O song by Have Fun Teaching)

(Letter O song by StoryBots)

Day 3 Videos:

(Letter G song by Have Fun Teaching)

(Letter G song by Jack Hartman)

Day 4 Videos:

(Letter H song by Have Fun Teaching)

(Letter H song by StoryBots)

Day 5 Videos:

(Letter T song by Have Fun Teaching)

(Letter T song by ABC Mouse)

To grab my student’s attention and get them ready to learn, I will begin each lesson with our daily YouTube alphabet videos. Students will be allowed to get up and dance

on their carpet spot, while we watch and sing along with the alphabet songs. Each day we will begin with our two alphabet songs, then each day we will spend a little bit

of time on individual letters. This is an introduction to letter L, O, G, H and T. Day one is letter T, day two is letter O, day three is letter G, day four is letter H,

and day five is letter T. After we watch the vidoes each day, we will review Saxon picture/letter cards and discuss the sounds of the letter we learned that day. Each day,

I will use chart paper to record the student responses of words they know that start with that particular letter sound we are learning. These anchor charts will hang on

our closet doors throughout the week as a reminder of what we have learned. I will use them to review what we learned the previous day.

EXPLORATION (18 points):

Daily Centers for Day 1-Day 5:

Computer & ipads:

(Starfall)

(ABCYA)

In this center students will have the opportunity to play ipads with a buddy and/or play on the computers. There are

only 2 desktops in our classroom, so the students will take turns each day on them; ensuring that every student has a

chance to play on the computers. Students will play only Starfall or ABCYA. Students will complete this form during the

week as they play the above games: ED 505 Letter Assessment.docx

Puzzles:

Letter sound and picture match puzzles. Beginning/Ending/Middle sound foam puzzles.

White Boards & Expo Marker

Students will practice writing uppercase and lowercase letters that we have learned. Saxon ABC stripes will be available for the students to look at while practicing their

handwriting.

Reading Loft:

Students will read different decodable books in the reading loft. These books will range from letter/picture books to leveled readers to ensure that everyone has something

on their level to read/look at. There will also be a pocket chart in the reading loft where the students can sort pictures under the appropriate beginning sound letter

card.

Playdough Letter Mats

Students will use playdough to form letters. There will be a laminated card for each letter that the students can use as a template to help them form the letter.

Centers will take place daily during the exploration part of the lesson. Students, especially kindergarteners, need time to move around and play; although they do not

realize they are actually learning. These centers will reinforce what we are learning during our whole group reading lesson each day. Centers are vital for students to

learn through hands-on activities. Students will participate in each center daily. They will rotate through the centers every 15 minutes.

EXPLANATION (18 points):

username: efreeman@

password: EbrookeF04

PowToon title: ED 5

I am including my username and password because PowToons woud not allow me to download without upgrading to a Premium package, which you pay for.

This PowToon will be used day 1-day 5. We will not watch the entire PowToon each day. We will watch only the slides that pertain to the letter we are learning that day.

Each day I will start the lesson with our YouTube videos located in the Engagement section of the lesson plan that coorelate with the letter we are learning that day.

Daily we will discuss the letter we are learning and the sound it makes. Once we get to the picture slide for the day, I will pause the PowToon and I will call on

volunteers to circle the pictures that start with the letter sound we are learning for the day. We will use the SmartBoard for this activity. I will also pause on the

slide that asks the students to circle the lowercase and uppercase letters. We will only learn one letter per day.

ELABORATION (18 points):

[pic] Sample Yakit Kids video

[pic] Sample Chatterpix video

Day 4:

Yakit Kids: Students will be assigned a letter we have learned in previous lessons. They will create their own Yakit Kids video using our classroom ipads. In the video

students will have to introduce their letter, the sound the letter makes, and give 2 examples of different words that start with their assigned letter. For those students

who may need additional help, teacher can meet with them one on one to help them create their video. Attached rubric for their Yakit Kids video can be found in evaluation

section of the lesson plan. Once the student have created their videos, I will email them to myself and we will watch them together as a whole group on the SmartBoard

(this will probably happen on day 5).

Day 6:

Chatterpix: Students will be broken into 5 groups (groups will be made ahead of time by the teacher). Each group will be assigned a letter we learned during day 1-day 5 of

this unit (letter L, O, G, H, T). Each group will be given a classroom ipad. Letter L group will make their video using a picture of a lemon. Letter O group wil make their

video using a picture of an octopus. Letter G group will make their video using a picture of a goat. Letter H group will make their video using a picture of a hat. Letter

T group will make their video using a picture of a tent. These pictures will be saved in the chatterpix app for them. The students will be asked to watch StoryBots video

on their assigned letter, through the StoryBots app, to help them research different words that start with their assigned letter. After viewing the StoryBots video,

students will discuss the words they know that start with their letter. Each student will speak a word into their chatterpix video. Students will have to introduce their

letter, the sound the letter makes, and give 5 examples of words that start with their letter. Once the videos are complete, I will email them to myself and we will watch

them together as a whole group on the SmartBoard (this will probably happen on day 7). There is an attached rubric for this group activitity in the evaluation section of

the lesson plan.

EVALUATION (18 points):

(ChatterPix Group Assignment Rubric)

This rubric will be used on day 6 of our unit. I will use these rubrics to grade each group project. Students will be given a class ipad to complete this activity. They

will also be assigned a letter we have learned during the unit (L, O, G, H or T). There will be 5 group and each group will have a different letter.

(YaKit Individual Assignment Rubric)

This rubric will be used on day 4 of our unit. I will use this rubric to grade the students individual YaKit video. Students will be assigned a letter we have learned in

previous lessons. Letters will be duplicated since we haven’t learned the entire alphabet yet. Students will be given a class ipad to complete this assignment by

themselves. If additional help is needed for some students, I will work one on one with them and help create their video.

(Kahoot Game)

I will check out a class set of ipads from the library on day 7 and we will complete this Kahoot game. As a review, we will first watch the ChatterPix groups projects the

students created by day 6. This Kahoot game will serve as a formative assessment on the content taught day 1-day 5. This is not the first time we have played a Kahoot

game, so there is no need for an introduction into “how to play the game”.
