Welcome to Specialist Wednesday!

This week the theme for Music is

Learning about music written by French composers!

Scroll down and find out what your year level is learning.

Learning Task

Click on the link and watch the following video to find out what we are doing this week:

This week we will be starting by looking at instruments that were created in France. Think about all the different

instruments you know. How many of them were created in France do you think? This week we are going to look at

the Harp, the Piano and the Tambourine.

Click on the links to hear what they sound like!

Harp:

Piano:

Tambourine:

Click on the following link and watch the video of a French Nursery Rhyme called Frere Jacque:

- What instruments could you hear?

- Were the instruments high sounding or low sounding?

- Have you heard those instruments before?

Strategy for Success ¨C Listen to the song a few times and reflect:

Did you hear the instruments we looked at earlier? Could you hear any instruments that you know in the video?

There is no need to upload for music this week but we will discuss your learning in future.

Learning Task

Click on the link and watch the following video to find out what we are doing this week:

For the past few weeks we have been learning about form. This week we are looking into music composed by the

French and the features of it. Did you know that many of the instruments you know were created in France? The

piano, violin, tambourine and harp were all created in France! There are also many famous French songs that follow

the forms that we have been learning about; binary (A, B), ternary (A, B, A) and round form.

If you haven¡¯t heard these instruments before have a listen to them below before moving on:

Piano:

Violin/Fiddle:

Harp:

Following on from last week¡¯s learning, you are going to identify what form a French nursery rhyme (Une Souris

Verte) is in. Listen carefully for any sections that repeat! Click on the link to the song and watch the video:

Strategy for Success ¨C Listen to the video a few times carefully and reflect:

What form do you think the song is in? Was it in binary (A, B) form? Was it in ternary (A, B, A) form where section

A repeats? Do you think the song was easier to follow with a form?

There is no need to upload for music this week but we will discuss your learning in future.

Learning Task

This week we are looking at different instruments and how they might play the music we have been learning about

the past few weeks. We will be looking specifically at instruments that were created in France! Think about the

instruments that you already know. How many of them were created in France do you think? This week we are going

to look at the Accordion, the French Horn and the Banjo.

Click on the links to hear what they sound like:

Accordion:

French Horn:

Banjo:

Now it¡¯s time to try and identify some other French instruments in these traditional

French songs. Click on the link to hear them (stop whenever you want):

Strategy for Success ¨C Use your listening skills and replay sections of the music a few

times before you reflect:

Could you hear any instruments we learnt about earlier? Do you think these instruments play using time

signatures and bar lines also? Did you hear any instruments you couldn¡¯t identify?

There is no need to upload for music this week but we will discuss your learning in future.

Learning Task

Click on the link and watch the following video to find out what we are learning about this week:

This week we will be starting with a game of guess the instrument! Click on the link and watch the video. How many

instruments can you guess correctly?

?

?

?

?

Did some instruments sound the same as each other?

Were some instruments louder or softer than others?

Do you play some instruments the same way? For example, blowing into

them.

Could you use each of the elements of music when playing these instruments?

To go with our thread for this week, I wonder how many of those instruments were invented

in France? Now it¡¯s time for you to do some research to find out which of the instruments

were invented in France. For an added challenge you can research what other instruments

were invented in France!

Strategy for Success ¨C Read over your answers and reflect:

How many of the instruments in the video were invented in France? Did you find any other instruments that were

invented in France? How do these instruments create sound? Were you surprised by the instruments invented in

France?

There is no need to upload for music this week but we will discuss your learning in future.
