Music Education, Music Business, Jazz and Commercial Music ...

Dear Student:

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Music at Hofstra University. We are pleased that you wish to audition for acceptance into one of our Bachelor of Science (B.S.) programs (Music Education, Music Business, Jazz and Commercial Music, Music Performance--vocal and instrumental, Music Theory and Composition, or Music History and Literature) and to be considered for one of Music Activity Grants. Please note neither the B.A. in Music Business nor the general B.A. in Music (liberal arts degree in music) require an audition.

On-campus in-person auditions for entrance into the 2024-2025 academic year will be held on two Saturdays this year: February 10 and February 24, 2024. It is important to set aside one of these dates on your calendar now, as the faculty will use the results of these auditions to determine whether you will be accepted into one of our B.S. degree programs, as well as to determine the disbursement of departmental Music Activity Grants.

Attached you will find an Audition Guidelines Form, and an Audition Confirmation Form. Please follow the instructions on the audition confirmation form to secure an audition date. Note that you must have applied for admission to the university before arriving at your audition; however, please DO NOT WAIT FOR A DECISION FROM THE UNIVERSITY before scheduling your audition. Most students will audition well before hearing anything from the University as to their academic acceptance? this the normal order of events for the clear majority of applicants. To apply, please visit hofstra.edu/admissions.

On the day of your audition, all students will report to the Joseph G. Shapiro Family Hall lobby on Hofstra University's South Campus at a time that will be confirmed via postcard and email well in advance of the audition day (it is safest to hold the hours between 9 am and 3 pm open on the day you request). After signing in at the registration desk, parents and students are invited to an informal meeting space where faculty, current student liaisons, and prospective students and parents can mingle, and all your questions will be gladly answered. Admissions personnel and campus tour guides will be on hand throughout the entire day as well.

Once again, please follow the instructions on the attached audition confirmation form to secure an audition date. We look forward to hearing from you and meeting you soon. If you need additional information or clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me personally at (516) 463-5497 or at David.Fryling@Hofstra.edu (I am much quicker to respond to email but will monitor both).

Thank you,

Dr. David Fryling, Assistant Chair Professor of Music, Director of Choral Studies (516) 463-5497 ? David.Fryling@Hofstra.edu
