Austin-by-way-of-Iceland-based band Kaleo has announced upcoming tour dates with indie band Family of the Year. The dates kick off November 5 in Denver, CO, and continue through December 1, wrapping in San Francisco. The tour follows Kaleo’s festival appearances at Bonnaroo and the upcoming Life is Beautiful Festival and Austin City Limits Music Festival, as well as a tour opening for Australian singer/songwriter Vance Joy earlier this year.

At radio, Kaleo’s song “All the Pretty Girls” has risen to the top 10 at Triple A outlets, and is impacting now at alternative, garnering more than 5 million streams on Spotify.

“It’s a very delicate song. It seemed to speak to a lot of people,” says lead singer JJ Juliusson.

Entertainment Weekly said of the song, the “Icelandic foursome begin with a Bon Iver-y hush, then bloom into holy fervor,” and NPR called it “falsetto-fueled balladry meets Iceleandic grandiosity.”

The band recently premiered a live video shot in a volcano in their native Iceland for the song “Way Down We Go” via Noisey. The video can be viewed here: . “Way Down We Go” will also be included in the soundtrack of FIFA 16, 2015’s installment of the EA Sports video game, which is set for release on September 22.

Kaleo is currently in the studio working with producer Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, James Bay) on a full-length album due for release in 2016 via Elektra/Atlantic.

Best friends since attending elementary school in the small town of Mosfellsbaer outside of Reykjavik, bandleader JJ Juliusson, drummer David Antonsson Crivello, and bassist Danny Jones began playing together at the age of 17 before adding guitarist Rubin Pollock to the mix in 2012. They named the band Kaleo, which means “the sound” in Hawaiian, and started their career in earnest with a handful of well-received shows at the 2012 Iceland Airwaves music festival.

The band made waves in their homeland with their 2013 self-titled debut album, which featured the jaunty folk-rock of “Automobile” to the lo-fi bluesy sketch “Broken Bones” to a modern remake of a traditional Icelandic tune.

Five singles off their debut would reach Number One and the album would go Gold, receiving high praise and sending the band to shows and festivals in Europe over the next year, including an appearance on the biggest stage in their home country, Culture Night, where they played to 100,000 people. Then, in the spring of 2014, Kaleo recorded “All the Pretty Girls” and in one night their destiny to outgrow their small island nation was cemented.

Drawn to Kaleo’s multi-layered dynamics, their ability to play different genres with equal skill, the vocals and mood reminiscent of everything from Bon Iver and Iron & Wine to The Lumineers and David Gray, and wise-beyond-their-years songwriting, the world came calling.
