Research Questions:

How many planets are there in our solar system (be careful with this one as something changed in 2006)?

Can you name the planets? What is Pluto now known as and why do you think this is?

What is the sun? What is a sundial and what is its purpose? What is a celestial body and can you give an example of one? What is the difference between the Geocentric Model and the

Heliocentric Model of our solar system? Create a fact file about a space scientist, such as: Ptolemy,

Alhazen or Copernicus.

Get Crafty!

Can you make a simple sundial?

You can use card, thick paper or a paper plate and then you just need a pen or pencil to stick through the middle. On

Google you can find lots information on how to construct one (there are simple and more detailed versions) and where is best to position it in your garden. What about a Solar System Model? This one is made out of Play Doh but you could draw it, use recyclable material at home or even Lego.

Research Project: Can you compare the time of day at different places on Earth? You could select 5 major cities in different places and draw/ make clocks to represent the different times, or you could create a chart to compare them.

Research Project 2: Find out about Stonehenge and why it may have been used as an astronomical clock. You could create a poster to explain this.

Test your teacher time Create a quiz using 2Quiz on Purple Mash based on what you have discovered and test your teacher

by emailing it to them! We would love to see what you have done so any work you do, you are very welcome to email it to

Mrs Wadsworth, Miss Stansfield or Mrs Smith.
