PROCLAMATION

of

Primitive Quartet Day

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------WHEREAS, the Primitive Quartet based in the Candler area of Buncombe County is

celebrating their fortieth year of traveling and singing gospel music; and

WHEREAS, the Primitive Quartet began in 1973 when two sets of brothers, Reagan and Larry Riddle and Furman and Norman Wilson carried a guitar and mandolin with them on a fishing trip to Fontana Lake and realized while singing four-part harmony around that camp fire that they had talent that could be used to spread the gospel; and

WHEREAS, today, the Primitive Quartet (Reagan, Larry and Mike Riddle, Norman Wilson, Randy Fox and Jeff Tolbert) travels over 50,000 miles a year and plays about 150 dates annually including the Hominy Valley Singing here in Buncombe County; and

WHEREAS, for more than 30 years the Primitive Quartet has hosted the Hominy Valley Homecoming every Fourth of July weekend, and afternoon Fall Color Singing gospel concerts on October weekends at Hominy Valley Singing Grounds in Candler; and

WHEREAS, while these family friendly events draw new and return visitors to our area, boosting our economy and preserving the blue grass gospel heritage of Buncombe County; the Primitive Quartet's ultimate goal is to see believers blessed and encouraged and to help lead souls to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ; and

WHEREAS, this Board wishes to honor the Primitive Quartet on the occasion of their fortieth anniversary for using their God-given talents for the betterment of this community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the Board of Commissioners for the County of Buncombe as follows:

1. That October 12, 2013 be proclaimed

"PRIMITIVE QUARTET DAY"

in Buncombe County.

2, That this Board does hereby honor Buncombe County's own Primitive Quartet for the outstanding dedication, hard work and success that has brought honor to our County and made them a true example of our motto "People to Match our Mountains."

3. That this proclamation be effective upon its adoption.
