In groups, fill in your answers. Take note of how many of these you use personally:Social Networking Sites:Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Tumblr, TwitterVideo and Photo Sharing Websites:Youtube, Vimeo, Tiktok, Instagram, VineBlogs (business and personal blogs):Tumblr, BloggerMicro-blogs:TwitterWikis and Online Collaborations:Wikipedia, RedditForums, Discussion Boards and Groups:RedditSecurityThe idea that our data never really goes away once it has made itself into Internet land is becoming a reality. This once referred to perhaps a photo that had been widely shared and never forgotten, but now expands to include majority to all of our online data - private, public or meta data – as business, government and networks move to record and retain our actions en-masse. 1.2Do you know what Meta Data is? If so, explain:Data of all the things that happen online. Meta Data is an overview of everything. Though it doesn’t record actual images or videos, it will record where the image went, and when. This is something that as of 2014? Can legally be accessed by government agencies to deal with legal issues mostly concerning terrorism.Do you feel safe using the internet?Mostly yes. I’m aware that you can find yourself in unsafe situations, but I believe I steer clear of those well.Online / Offline FriendsWe all use social media to communicate to the people we know in life, whether it’s about school or parties or just time wasting talk. It’s easy to meet someone online, either by chance by actually looking such as using forums or dating sites.1.3Do you personally know everyone you're friends with on Facebook? No, there are a few people that I’m friends with due to mutual friends and we haven’t actually met.1.4Have you ever met anyone online?Yes, through a dating site and through forums.1.5If yes, have you met up in person? How did you decide it was safe?We talked for a month before meeting, we also skyped which meant I was very positive that I was talking to the real person and not a fake.1.6Has anyone ever put up something about you on a social media site you didn't want up? What did you do?Yes, I untagged myself and left it alone. No need to draw attention to it.Location Based ServicesWho knows where you have been? Smartphone’s have a built-in feature called geolocators that can pinpoint your exact location. This data is often published online through social networking sites, or used by location-based services such as maps, public transport apps, retail services and so on. It can also be embedded in images you take with your smartphone camera.1.7What uses geolocators? (What accounts on an off your phone?)Google accounts automatically use geolocators. Facebook and other social media accounts will often ask if they can use location. Some other apps that work on location based information such as dating accounts and meet up accounts.1.8How do you turn geolocators off?Usually in each app or account, in settings there is an option to turn off location. On a phone you can turn it off in settings which will disable all accounts from using it.Identity Theft and HackingIdentity theft is when your personal information is used without your knowledge or permission. Personal information can be accessed from your computer or at a public computer terminal. 1.9What is identity theft? How do I avoid it? This is also sometimes referred to as cat fishing, what are the differences between the two? Cat fishing is when someone takes on a persona that is not themselves, though this persona doesn’t have to be real at all. Identity theft is when someone purposefully steals another’s Identity and acts as them. This isn’t always easy to avoid. Always check that the person friending you is who they say they are. Using networks such as skype or even Snapchat act as visual confirmation of who you are talking to.1.10Do you use any cloud-based storage? If yes, do you change your passwords regularly?I use iCloud to back up my whole computer as it’s just easier that way and no I don’t change my password, I’ve never felt the need to.Offensive or Illegal ContentThere’s always a report on the news about viral videos of someone getting beaten, or a young person being bullied online. There’s huge operations conducted to catch people who provide underage pornography and you can even buy drugs online through sites that look like eBay. The Internet has done wonders for humanity, but a lot of us abuse it. 1.11What is the different between offensive and illegal content?Offensive content is something like bullying, it can mentally hurt someone or make someone angry, but there aren’t any laws against it, just regulations. Illegal content is something that is in direct contradiction to a law.1.12What do you think is illegal content? Give examples:Child pornography and anything sexual that is non-consensual. Piracy.??????1.13What do you do when you see something offensive on a social media site?I usually ignore it unless it’s directly concerns me or is against something I believe in, in that case I’ll usually leave a comment. If it’s really bad, I’ll report it.Mental Health in AustraliaAll of the following facts are taken from Beyond Blue.1 in 12 Australians is currently experiencing depression6.3% of 16-24 year olds have experienced a disorder in the last 12 months1 in 6 Australians is currently experiencing an anxiety condition15.4% of 16-24 year olds have experienced anxiety in the last 12 months1 in 4 Australians is currently experiencing a mental health condition26.4% of 16-24 year olds have experienced a mental health disorder in the last 12 monthsSuicide is the biggest killer of young Australians, it accounts for more lives than car accidents. The Internet spreads information like wildfire. Think twice before you say something negative and most importantly take care of yourself!1.14How often do you spend on the Internet? And what does that time consist of?I spend a few hours on social media each day just keeping up to date. I always check Facebook and Tumblr and once every few days I’ll make sure I’m up to date with my YouTube subscriptions. I also watch most of my TV shows online.Exercise and HealthExercise is not the most enjoyable thing for a lot of us, for those who are passionate about sports you got lucky, for others the idea of even putting on running shoes is horrible. What you may not know is that while exercise is definitely good for a fitness and physical health, it also reduces the level of cortisol (the stress hormone) in our bodies. A little bit of cortisol is fine, but when you’re at school and there is constant assessments and deadlines, often it is over produced and too much of this specific hormone can be very harmful and actually add to a persons depression and anxiety. If you’re not into a sport try jogging or even walking, if you have a dog I’m sure they’d love to come with you. If that still sounds horrible to you, how about yoga? Or swimming? Even trying out martial arts. Take a break from the technology overload and get your heart rate up – your body will thank you for it. 1.15What exercise do you already do? Anything is still something; so even if you just walk to school, write it down:I walk my dog almost every day which is usually 30 minutes. I also walk to and from school which together is probably 40 minutes a day.1.16If you had the time, the money and the motivation, what activities would you add to your week?I’d love to do yoga and I wouldn’t mind just having a general gym membership so I could tone up as well as get fit. Employment Search HistoryThe time of calling past employees to ascertain your character is gone, instead it has been replaced with a Google search and Facebook stalk to find out everything about you; interests, groups you’re in, where you go, and of course the photos you appear in. It is becoming more and more accessible for potential and current employers to attain information about you. The information gained by employers may not be true yet you are accountable to it. The issue here is: A profile of drunken teenage years and adventures appearing to the Human Resource manager despite you being in your 20’s. Your application would be thrown out before even being interviewed. Why? Not because it is your character to get drunk in your 20’s, but because that information is publically accessible via your name. It is not an association that businesses want to make. As an actor you HAVE to be aware of these things. Try looking at it this way… Who do you follow on Twitter? Hugh Jackman? Emma Watson? Ian Somerhalder? These people are Googled thousands of times every day and what is found is public knowledge. Do you think they upload drunk photos of themselves? Or allow other people to tag them in inappropriate things? Ian Somerhalder actually hired someone to check everything he was going to put up so that nothing offended anyone. Adele was banned from using her own Twitter account without first having her posts checked because she spoke to liberally about her opinion. What you say and do online will stick with you and being an actor these days is as much about what you do off camera than on camera. None of you are at the level of fame that these people are, but if you’re aiming to be a successful and well-known actor, you may as well start getting into certain habits now. As part of your homework you will be asked to Google yourself and list what you find, remember to check images as well as the main web results. Keep in mind that whatever you find is what a complete stranger will find too. It’s important that you start thinking about the difference between public and private. For example, a Facebook account is usually private as people put up travel photos and make huge personal posts about their lives. If this is the case for you, then make sure your security settings reflect that. Having a public Facebook profile means anyone in the world can see what you are doing and who you are with. In the case of Twitter, the whole point of this account is to be public. This means that your Twitter posts should be things that you are willing for the world to see. The other side of this can be that you never show up and you’d like to. We all want to make an impression right? Some of you will have a very common name and since you’re not known, you won’t be found. There isn’t all that much you can do about that for the time being, but I still urge you to keep your profiles clean and organised. Perhaps think about making an account on a site that may promote you as an actor (of whatever else you do) and make sure to use your name, as that’s what Google is searching for. f something comes up on Google that you don’t want there, then it is up to you to remove it. This will mean closing down old accounts you don’t use, removing photos or putting them on a private setting. There is also an option to ask Google to actually remove pages from searches. All of these actions will help to tidy up your image.1.17Google yourself and record the top results: Computer Training Questions3.1Do you know how to export documents as a PDF? If so, explain below.Yes. To export a document as a PDF from a word document, I would open the word document and click ‘file’, then ‘save as’ and choose the ‘export to PDF’ option. There are also free sites to do this.3.2Do you know how to export files from programs such as Movie Maker, iMovie and QuickTime? If so, explain below.I use online sites to export any photo or video files.3.3Do you know how to change the settings on apps and online accounts to suit your privacy needs? If so, explain below. Each app or site can be different but generally speaking, in a settings tab there will be a privacy setting you can change to public or private.3.4Do you often find yourself asking for help with computers? If so, explain below. No, not really. If I don’t know something I will Google it.Assessment Marking Guide-Confidential Student Record-UOC ICPDMT263: Access and use the InternetAssessment Includes: This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use the Internet to browse and download information and includes identifying required software and security risks.
