Mini Wicked Review

By Nicole Curley

Wicked is a play based on a book by Gregory Maguire. The musical was in Cincinnati and was flawless. From the high notes to the low, all notes were hit. The musical is the story of The Wizard of Oz told by the wicked witch, Elphaba. It is a heartwarming story about love, rivalry, and change. I would HIGHLY recommend it.

I interviewed two very charming kindergartners named Maevry and Eve about their favorite and not so

favorite field trips. This year the kindergartners to the Planetarium, California Woods and Imago Earth

Center. Maevry said that her favorite field trip was California Woods. Maevry liked when they got to go

the garden at California Woods. Eve liked the Planetarium most. She said that the best part of the

Planetarium was the popup book that they got to see. Eve liked it when they got to see the big screen at

the Planetarium. Eve said

ILLUSIONS OF THE MONTH

Which one is it? I think I'm seeing things (rainbows).

If only that was my neighborhood.

Book of the Month:

Warriors

By Erin Hunter

Rusty is a perfectly normal house cat. That is until he hears rumors about forest cats. He is warned not to go into the forest, but like the saying,"curiosity killed the cat," he couldn't help but check out the forest. That saying almost came true when he was attacked by a forest cat, who's name was Graypaw. Some forest cats (who had been spying on the battle) saw potential in the young house cat and invited him to join their clan, in the forest. Graypaw soon befriended Rusty, but unlike Graypaw, some cats didn't quite approve of Rusty. Now, how far could that disapproval go? Read and find out!

TEACHER INTERVIEW

This month our interview is on Melissa Himmelbauer. She has been at Mercy for 12 years. She has taught K-3 and 7- 8. First, she taught with Lisa at DeColores Montessori for 2 years. Then she came to Mercy and taught with Phyllis for 10 years. She has been teaching with Noreen now for 2 years. Mostly, she teaches math and cultural. Her favorite book is A Wrinkle in Time and reads that to the third graders every year and hosts a party to watch the movie, after they finish the book.

Melissa loves all of the Montessori materials. "It really speaks to the children," she says. She has not always been a Montessori teacher. She is interested in all religions and is very spiritual. Zen activities are enjoyable for her as well. Melissa claims her favorite color is rainbow. When Melissa taught at a mainstream high school she wanted a change because she had over 180 students a day!

Melissa is quite the teacher!

POETRY

Organized by Carter O' Daniel

TEN THINGS ABOUT SUMMER It's hot, You can ride a bike, You don't have to leave the house, It's not cold, You can go for a walk, next, You can go on vacation, Watch fireworks on the Fourth of July, And you can sleep all day!

Stop! Stop! Take a minute, will she care? Will he find out?

Stop! Give me a minute, will they notice? Or will they just pass by?

Stop! I need a minute, do I want this for them? Will this cause problems?

Stop! Stop! Stop! One more minute, will this hurt? Will this give them lots of stress everyday?

Stop! I need to think for one more minute. Should I hide it? Should I hide it? Should I fight it? What is best?

Stop! Let me think. I should fight it, tell them, be as brave as I can, be honest, love them with all my heart, be a role model, and that is what is best. - KT Headley
