MID is also part of the Balancing Authority of Northern California (BANC) and a member of the M-S-R Public Power Agency.MID’s 10 largest electric customers account for 23% of total kWh sales and 16% of total energy revenues. The largest customer accounts for 11% of total kWh sales and 6% of total electric revenue. MID’s has nearly 118,000 customers of which 97,000 are residential, 13,000 are commercial, 160 are industrial, and about 4,000 “other”. MID’s peak demand is 653 MW.MID has about 450 employees of which 383 are represented by the IBEW. MID generates about $414 million in annual revenue, of which nearly $353 million comes from retail sales, approximately $31 million in wholesale electric sales, $21 million from domestic water sales and $5 million from irrigation water sales. Purchase power is the largest expense at $174 million. MID’s net utility plant is $718 million; long-term debt is $706 million, which has been significantly reduced. MID also has take-or-pay obligations with M-S-R and TANC totaling $377 millionMID has been rated A+ by Standard &Poors and Fitch.MID’s General Manager reports to the five-member Board of Directors and is responsible for the day to day operation of MID and the execution of Board policies and direction. He or she will lead MID’s 450 employees through a senior staff that currently consists of a Senior Assistant General Manager, an Assistant General Manager, Finance & Treasurer; Assistant General Manager Electric Resources (anticipated to report to the Senior Assistant General Manager; Assistant General Manager Transmission & Distribution (also anticipated to report to the Senior Assistant General Manager; Assistant General Manager Water Operations; Human Resources Manager; Information Technology Manager; Safety & Environmental Compliance Manager; Regulatory Administrator; and Senior Public Affairs Specialist. The General Counsel reports directly to the Board of Directors. Along with ensuring competitive retail rates are provided and MID operates in a sound financial condition, he or she will be responsible for generating a culture of admirable Board and customer relations. This should include open and transparent communications, providing timely and complete information, and ensuring MID responds proactively to customer questions, requests, and suggestions.Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, Engineering Information Technology, or other related fields. An advance degree in Business is preferred. The ideal candidates will have a history of management in the energy or water industries. Experience managing accounting, finance, member relations, power supply, water operations, and other administrative duties is ideal. Experience with for-profit competitive business is highly preferred. Candidates should have a proven record of management success including good relations with customers and employees. Modesto was founded in 1870. It is located in the San Joaquin Valley (Central Valley) 92 miles east of San Francisco and 90 miles north of Fresno. Modesto is California’s 18th largest city with a 2010 population of 201,000. The surrounding Stanislaus County generates $3.1 billion in agricultural revenues. .
