Overview of the Application Process
Maynidoowahdak Odena opened in January 1998. The name originates from the Ojibwe language and means “a place for healing.”
Applicants must meet the attached Selection Criteria which includes a rental, credit, and criminal court history as well as the noted income eligibility.
Preference for occupancy is given to disabled households and, in some cases, to households that have been homeless. Documentation of both disability and homelessness will be required. Financing also requires that priority be given to Native American applicants. Two units will be made available (as vacancies make them available) to serve long-term homeless households.
In addition, Indigenous Peoples Task Force (IPTF), the owner of the property, provides supportive services for residents. These services range from needs assessment, assistance in locating therapy, locating child care, programs for children and families, job development, assistance with chemical healthcare treatment.
Property management and rental management, income certification, maintenance, and rent collection are handled by Perennial Management, LLC.
Ten of the 14 units receive a rent subsidy based on the household income. For those families, household income must be at or below 50% of the Area Median Income of Hennepin County.
Rent for the other 4 units (three efficiency apartments and one 1-bedroom) will be at least $150.00.
The two long-term homeless units will be occupied by households who have experienced homelessness four (4) times in three (3) years or continuously for one year. In most cases, these household incomes will be at or below 30% of Area Median Income.
Applicants will be denied if they have a criminal history of arson, sex crimes, violent crimes, or illegal manufacture of controlled substances.
While non-payment of rent or eviction alone will not be grounds for denial, actions at prior housing that are disruptive or dangerous to other residents or to the safety of the property may be grounds for denial.
