• Click on the MyPyramid Plan box on the right side of the screen.

• Type in your: (1) Age and (2) Sex

• Select a level of activity by scrolling down the options

• Click “submit”

On the right side of the screen click where it says “Click here to view and print a PDF version of your results.” Print a copy of this chart to use for this activity and to turn in with your finished project.

Step 3: Determining changing requirements

Return to the home page of website. Again, click on the MyPyramid Plan box. Change your exercise levels and age in the MyPyramid Plan box in order to complete the My Changing Requirements chart (back of packet). Answer the questions found on the bottom of the page.

Step 4: “Power Choices”

“Power Choices” are not just the number of servings. Answer the following questions by maneuvering around the MyPyramid web site.

a. What part of a person’s total grain servings should be whole grain?

b. Give 3 examples of common foods and their amounts that equal a 1-ounce equivalent of grains.

STEP 5: SPENDING DISCRETIONARY CALORIES

Look back at your printout from Step 2. For your current level of exercise, how many Discretionary Calories are you allowed?

List a food and its’ calories that you could eat, in addition to your MyPyramid requirements, that is close to but not more than this number of calories. Use the calorie chart on the MyPyramid web site. Look in the Estimated Total Calories column. Another good web site to find calorie counts is: .

NOTE: If you follow these guidelines, this is the only extra food you could have beyond your requirements.

b. Describe how easy/difficult you think it is for people to use the information on MyPyramid in order to lead a healthy lifestyle.
