Spelling BeeOn Friday the 18th of October 6 fantastic spellers took part in the Alton Spelling Bee. The event took place from 5:00pm till 7:00pm. There were two teams from Four Marks, team Yew and team Elm. The children had two rounds of spelling to complete and in the first round were asked to spell an easy word, a slightly hard word and a difficult word. At the end of the first round both the Four Marks teams were doing really well.In round two all the teams had to choose easy words or hard words to spell in a limited amount of time. If they got the words correct easy words would win them one point and hard words won them two points. Both the Four Marks teams took a risk and chose hard words. At the end of round two amazingly both the four Marks teams tied with Medstead on 26 points! Then there was a sudden death knockout round to see who would be the winners of the Spelling Bee Competition. The teams were given an extremely hard word and had to choose one person in their team who would spell it. First to be knocked out were the Medstead team. Then it was both the Four Marks teams against each other. Unfortunately Team Yew got knocked out with the word ‘limousine’. If team Elm could spell the next word they would win. Iestyn Coxworth-Jones got chosen to spell the word ‘contagious’ and got it right ,winning his team the prize of the Spelling Bee Bear to put in the school office. All of the fantastic teams got a chocolate bear for their efforts and the winning team got book tokens as well. Everyone did well and Iestyn Coxworth-Jones, Seb Palmer, Emily Hudson, Max Anderson, Thomas Hood and Molly Steven were all proud to have represented their school.By Emily Hudson and Molly Steven-257175-39052500Are the Teams Ready?-58483521463000 Runners up - Yew Team-107950These are some of the words the teams had to spell:-Environment, avalanche, geography, accommodation, stomach, thorough, jealous, necessary, rhinoceros, racquet, satellite, liquorice, conscience, courageous, breathe, disappoint, alien, ordinary, gorilla, jealous, tattoo, skeleton, chimney, orchestra, auxiliary, disapprove, exaggerate. How would you have done?00These are some of the words the teams had to spell:-Environment, avalanche, geography, accommodation, stomach, thorough, jealous, necessary, rhinoceros, racquet, satellite, liquorice, conscience, courageous, breathe, disappoint, alien, ordinary, gorilla, jealous, tattoo, skeleton, chimney, orchestra, auxiliary, disapprove, exaggerate. How would you have done?-93345049593500The Winners – Elm Team ................
