Endangered Species Websites
Endangered Species Websites
Go to to find a list of possible endangered species to choose from.
Introduction Page: (5 points)
______Page needs to include your species of choice
______Common name and scientific name
______Classification of species
______Habitat
______Location
______Why did you choose this species (not just “because I saw it on the list”)
Make this interesting, you want people to view your site
Natural History Page: (15 points)
______This page will include a general description of the species and any interesting information such as, but not limited to:
Gestational information, general appearance, what role does the species play in the ecosystem, species interactions (predator-prey), dietary information, migration patterns, dispersion patterns, cultural importance, population dynamics (live in packs, how many offspring, average age…etc)
Crisis Page (Causes of Endangerment): (30 points)
______This will include a list and description of the causes for endangerment that this
species faces (cite specific examples: abiotic and biotic)
______The range in which this species is classified as endangered
______Basic population statistics (census numbers throughout history)
______Information on what technique they use for counting (if available)
______Any important dates/events that have taken place with this species throughout
history
• Use appropriate vocabulary discussed throughout this unit (i.e. abiotic factors, biotic factors, adaptations, reproductive cycles, survivorship graphs, density-independent factors and density-dependent factors)
Conservation Actions Page: (30 points)
This page will include:
______Laws that have been/are in place for protection of this species
______What support does organization (names and description) and government
agencies or popular media sources give to the species
______What habitat protection plans are in place, if any
______Is there anything else being done to reverse the population decline of this species
(i.e. captive breeding programs, held in captive…etc).
Personal Protection Plan: (10 points)
______You need to design a personal protection plan that reflects the information you have learned throughout your investigation of your chosen species. This plan should include what you believe the best course of action should be to “save the species” (change of habit, creation of a new law, captive breeding programs in place...etc). What can be done to make conservation actions effective in the future?
This page should include a creative advisement that promotes the protection of your species.
Resources Page: (5 points)
______This page should include ALL resources used during the creation of your website. This allows other readers to find further information if interested in your species. You should not limit yourself to the number of sources you use!

Overall Grading:
Each website will be graded on creativity, images relating to text (maps, graphs and photos of the species), overall reliability of the information presented, appearance, organization, general context of pages, sources, accessibility of the information to the general public (don’t overwhelm there with facts) and information included on each page matches description above.
Please feel free to add additional information and pages to your website. Remember these are open to the public!
Plagiarism (copying and pasting) of any information will result in an automatic ZERO!
