Dear Parent/Guardian,

Your child is currently enrolled in World History. Throughout the duration of this course students will cover Early Civilizations, Regional Civilizations, Early Modern Times, Enlightenment and Revolution, Industrialism and a New Global Age, World Wars and Revolutions, and the World Since 1945. We will be covering this first four of these units, approximately 20 chapters during the first semester and the final 3 units during the 2nd semester. This is a survey course that will cover history through the eyes of the world and focuses on many different sectors of world including Europe, Ancient Rome, the Middle East, Africa, China, Russia, and much more. Please review the following expectations with your child and sign and return the bottom portion by the specified due date.

Required Supplies

Students must have a pen or pencil, their I.D., their agenda, and paper everyday. Students are required to have a binder. The binder should not be more than 1 inch. It is a good idea to have some colored pencils or markers and glue sticks. A notebook for journals is recommended. Extra credit may be earned if a student brings in up to two boxes of Kleenex, hand sanitizer (w/alcohol), and two packs of pencils.

Grading Policy

Homework will make up 45% of each students’ final grade. However, should a student neglect to compete 60% of all homework assignments he/she will receive a failing grade for the marking period. Assessments will also make up 45% of the final grade. This category includes tests, quizzes, projects, and their binder. The binder is to be used as a portfolio and students will be required to keep each and every assignment/handout in chronological order. At the end of each marking period students will be required to turn in the binder for a grade. Any student that fails to turn in a completed binder will fail this course! Class participation will make up the final 10% of the grade. This is subject to change due to our district’s new Powerschool software.

Attendance

Please familiarize yourself with the school attendance and tardy policy. It will be strictly enforced throughout the school year. However, it is important to note that attendance is especially crucial in this class. Students without I.D.’s will not be admitted into the classroom.

Late Work

Should a student be absent he/she is responsible for picking up any work that was missed and then meeting with me to set up a reasonable due date. Should a student miss a test or quiz he/she must follow the same rule. Please note that if a student is absent for three days, he/she will have no longer than three days to make up any assignments or assessments. Since plenty of notice is always provided for projects, they must be turned in immediately upon the students return to school. Late work will not be accepted. Should a student fail to complete a project on time he/she will receive a failing grade for the assignment—projects will not be accepted late. Students need to make “study buddies” with a friend who can pick up work for them when they are out. Study buddies may also help by providing instruction. Students who miss a test need to see their teacher about test make-ups which may be before or after school.

Passes

My policy is to not allow students’ to have a pass to their locker or to their counselor. If a student has to use the bathroom, this is usually a classroom disruption and I only grant passes in the case of an emergency. Maximum two passes per semester! Student must sign in and out on our door sign sheet.
