General Notes/CommentsThe Nurses Certification And Recognition of Experience?Act?of 2020 (H.R.8874) was introduced on 12th of April, 2020 to the House of Representatives similarly to amend titles XVIII and XIX of the Social Security Act to provide flexibility in training and competency requirements for skilled nursing facility and nursing facility nursing aides under the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Currently, Medicare skilled nursing facilities and Medicaid nursing facilities may not hire nurse aides for longer than four months unless they have attained the certification requirements. However, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has waived some of these requirements during the emergency period to allow facilities to maintain adequate staffing levels. When the bill is passed and made law, it will promote the nursing profession extensively and also help individuals who undertake the required training to achieve the required certifications and become nursing aids under the Medicaid and Medicare nursing programs.
