Week 2, Term 2 School Newsletter Mrs Sonja Thorvaldson

3rd May 2011 Principal Jerangle Public School

From the Principal’s Desk

Term 2 started with a short 3 day week, with all students keen to return to the books after the break. It was wonderful to see the maturity that some students developed during the holidays and everyone had terrific stories to share. This term the students will be studying and investigating machines and energy. It is a great unit of work with a lot of practical applications and experiments in it. They have been researching information about the CWA country of study- Iceland, and look forward to presenting their discoveries to the Jerangle CWA members next Tuesday.

Maths games have started up again and students love to see family and community members join in on some fun number counting. So why not come along and see what all the commotion is all about? See you Friday afternoon 2pm in the classroom.

This term Jerangle students will participate in the Monaro Small Schools athletics carnival in Cooma on the 18th May and will also be joining other small schools at Bredbo for a fun day of activities.

ANZAC Assembly [pic]

Last week students participated in a special ANZAC assembly on Friday. The students learnt about the history and importance of peace in our country as well as others. They showed repect for the fallen and celebrated the freedom we are privileged to have in Australia.

Harry Nichols Shield

This year Jerangle was proud to be represented by David and Dustin in the Harry Nichols Shield. Other primary students from surrounding small schools made up a team and played against Cooma Primary school, Cooma North Primary School and Saint Patricks Primary school. The boys had fun being part of a team and although they didn’t win a game they enjoyed participating in such a great event.

Premiers Reading Challenge

Many students took the opportunity during the holiday break to notch up a few more Premiers Reading Challenge books under their belt. Some students have almost completed the challenge and have set their own challenge for the term.

Keep up the great work Jerangle.

Playgroup [pic]

If you have children between the ages of 0 to 4 years then come and join Jerangle playgroup every Thursday at the Jerangle Public School. It is a great chance for the local children to gain many social skills necessary for this day and age and also a good opportunity for mum’s to catch up on news and swap ideas.

This term a number of good events have been planned so put them in your diary and we all look forward to seeing you on Thursday in the library.
