We would appreciate items to share with the class such as gum, lollipops, and snacks such as pretzels and Goldfish for testing times.

I cannot believe that it is already April; I guess time flies when you are having fun. It seems as though the school year was just starting and now it is more than ¾ of the way done. As you, all know the testing season is upon us. We will be taking our ELA test the first week of this month and our Math test will take place the first week of May. We will be spending a great deal of time on Math to get all materials covered. Review materials will be coming home daily, so please make sure your child is completing their homework.

Once the ELA testing is over, we will be hopping into some wonderful stories and books. We will also focus on a poetry unit!

For the next month, we will be working on the following materials:

Math

• Telling time, money, area, perimeter, probability and graphs

• We are reviewing for the NYS Math exam using a variety of skills and concepts. We will continue to review after testing.

Reading

• We will be reading a variety of stories based on the theme “Going Places”

• Pushing all children to become more independent at reading grade level materials

Science/Social Studies

• Our Solar System

• Scholastic News

•

ELA

• We will be starting a research paper of some type. The final product will be three or more paragraphs long. The students will be required to use three or more resources.

• Poetry Unit

Please check with your child to see how his or her school supplies are. Many children are without pencils and erasers these days!

Important April dates:

2nd & 3rd – NYS ELA TEST

5th- Student Assembly 8:30

12TH Treat Day for finishing ELA test

13th – 22nd - NO SCHOOL

May 1st & 2nd NYS Math test

Reader’s Club

By the end of this month, I am hoping that each child will have 35 or more Reader’s Club books. This should not be difficult considering that they should all have 30 or more at this point.
