-634365-226060Manhasset Public Schools Dr. Dean J. Schlanger, Principal Manhasset Secondary SchoolApril 15th, 2019Dear Parents/Guardians,Please be advised that the Secondary School will have a series of special sessions of school occurring on Wednesday, May 1st and Thursday, May 2nd. The purpose of this unique schedule is to accommodate state testing for middle school students in a manner that will minimize lost instructional time and help our school operate through the intricacies of shared staff and services between the High School and Middle School. On the days of 5/1 - 5/2, all Middle School students scheduled to take the NYS Mathematics exam will report to school at their regular time of 8:08 AM. At that time, however, they will report to the MS/HS gyms for administration of the 2019 New York State assessments in Mathematics. The testing will take approximately ninety minutes. After the exams, students will report to their regularly scheduled period 1 classes for the start of an abbreviated nine period day that will begin at 10:08 AM and conclude at the regular dismissal time of 3:08 PM. Please note that middle school students enrolled in an accelerated high school math class (e.g. Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II) are exempt from this state exam.On the same days of 5/1 – 5/2, all High School students will report to school at the special time of 10:08 AM. High School students will report to their regularly scheduled period 1 classes for the start of an abbreviated nine period day that will begin at 10:08 AM and conclude at the regular dismissal time of 3:08 PM.If an eligible Middle School student is opting out of the Math exam, the parent/guardian?must e mail?Mrs. Irene Polan in the Middle School main office. Her e mail address is?ipolan@. You should also cc Ms. Lauren Tallarine, District Coordinator for Math?(Lauren_Tallarine@) on the request. All requests should be accompanied by a phone number to verify the opt out process with parents/guardians as deemed necessary.?These students also should report to school for a 10:08 AM start time. For High School students, and those Middle School students not taking the Mathematics exam, there will be a special bus run that will drop off students at school in time for the abbreviated school day (starting at 10:08 AM). Students using this later bus option must report to their regular bus stop two hours later than their typical pick up time.Middle School parents are asked to ensure that their children are well-rested and have eaten a healthy breakfast in order to perform as well as possible on the assessment. Students will need two sharpened #2 pencils. We also ask that students either leave their cell phones at home or secure them in their lockers. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.Respectfully,Dr. Dean SchlangerPrincipal ................
