Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request – 200326008

Thank you for your request in which you asked for the following information from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ):

I work as a Research Fellow, and just wondered if you could tell me where I could access data tables that would tell me what the National Probation Service caseload looks like in terms of gender, age and ethnicity? I am aware of the quarterly offender management statistics bulletins, and understand that these sorts of demographics are regularly published as tables but can’t see where to access them.

Your request has been handled under the FOIA.

I can confirm that the MoJ holds all the information that you have requested and I have provided some of it in the attached tables which show:

• Table 1: Offenders supervised by the Probation Service as at 30 September 2019, by age group, England and Wales, and

• Table 2: Offenders supervised by the Probation Service as at 30 September 2019, by ethnic group, England and Wales.

However, the information on the latest Probation Service caseload by gender, which presents figures for both the National Probation Service (NPS) and Community Rehabilitation Companies (CRCs), is exempt from disclosure under section 21 of the FOIA, because it is reasonably accessible to you. The information can be accessed via the following link:

The figures showing the caseload by gender can be found in the caseload .CSV file in the above link.

Outside of the scope of the FOIA and on a discretionary basis, you may be interested to note that the latest published data on offenders under NPS and CRC’s supervision in England and Wales can be viewed via the following links to the MoJ Offender Management statistics quarterly bulletin:
