What do I need to know this week?

1. SchoolCashOnline: This is the payment system we use at West Langley Elementary. It allows you to pay either with

credit card or e-cheque. For more information on how to register, go to:

2. Agendas/Supplies & Terry Fox Donations: Are available to be paid for using SchoolCashOnline. To access the site

please visit . If you must pay in cash, parents are asked to come to the office and pay with Mrs. Lundquist.

3. Meet the Teacher Night, September 23: Please sign up for a time to attend our evening event with your child. 4. Toonies for Terry ? We will be holding our annual Terry Fox Run on Wednesday, September 22. Students are asked

to wear clothes they can run in and be prepared for the weather. Donations can be made using SchoolCashOnline this year.

5. School Forms: Our Media Release, IT Acceptable Use, PAC Consent, and Walking Fieldtrip forms have been sent to

families electronically by the Langley School District to help reduce our paper consumption and streamline the process. All families should have received an email to complete several online forms from the district. Please check your spam or junk folders as well if you have not received them. Please note if you have more than one child at West Langley or in the school district, you need to complete the forms for each child enrolled in Langley. If you need assistance, please call the school office. The student Verification Form, the Emergency Reunification Form has also been sent home today. Please have all complete forms signed and returned no later than September 29, 2021. Thank you for your assistance.

6. Can I bring birthday treats or goodies to share with my child's classmates? Currently, we are limiting the

sharing of food with our classmates and ask families not to send treats for your child's birthday or other special occasions. If you have questions, please contact Ms. Lambie at clambiepottersmith@sd35.bc.ca

7. Outside Playtime: Be prepared to go outside in any weather. Students should have coats, boots and umbrellas if

raining as we will be spending more time outside this year. Many students still enjoy sliding, climbing and swinging in the rain so please help your children be prepared to play outside. Having students bring extra clothing on rainy days helps us keep your child comfortable throughout the day.

Terry Fox Run ? September 22

We will be holding our Terry Fox Run on September 22 shortly after 1:00pm. We are collecting donations for the Terry Fox Foundation until the first weekend of October through SchoolCashOnline. 100% of all proceeds will be forwarded to the Terry Fox Foundation. We are looking for 9-10 parents to assist with marshalling the run while maintaining physical distancing outside on our run route for our grade six and seven students. Please note that parents willing to assist will be asked to wear a mask, a safety vest and maintain physical distancing from students. If you are interested, please email Ms. Lambie at clambiepottersmith@sd35.bc.ca by Monday, September 20.

School Organization

There have been a couple of questions about our class organization this year. The number of Divisions we are assigned are determined by our enrollment. All school staff work for hours collaboratively in June and September to build classes that are inclusive and will help staff meet the needs of learners at West Langley Elementary.

Depending on how many students we have in each grade along with class composition guides our discussions on how we organize.

This year, some families used the parent portal in MyEdBC to try and determine which class their child would be in prior to us moving students into their 2021-2022 classrooms. Moving forward, please note at the elementary level, our September start up information is not aligned and accurate in the parent portal.

If you are concerned about split classes, I would recommend reading an article written by Mr. Wejr:

As always, please check in with the school office if you have questions so that we can clarify or give families accurate information.

Daily Health Check

Please do a Daily Health Check with your child/children prior to coming to school. Please see the link below to access district information:

What do I do if my child is late or absent?

If your child is going to be away or late in the morning, please call the school office no later than 9am at 604-888-6444. Please note that teachers begin reviewing the shape of the day, class meetings, and instruction at 8:37am. Being on time helps your child get settled for the day and set up for success! Thank you for helping us.

Meet the Teacher ? September 23 ? 6:30-8:30pm

We are happy to welcome parents and students back to Meet the Teacher Night. Parents and students will be invited to sign up for 10 minutes spots to visit their classroom and teacher through School Appointments Online. If you are new to School Appointments Online, you will need to register prior to booking an appointment. Registration will open on Monday, September 13 (10:00am) at and will close on Tuesday, September 21 at 10:00pm. In each time slot, 3-4 families will be present in the room. Before entering the classroom, parents will be asked to wear a mask, sanitize their hands, sign in (and out) and do their best to distance from other families in the room. We ask that if you are unfortunately ill that evening, you do not attend.

We hope you will consider joining us and seeing the learning spaces where your children will be working and playing this year!
