? Central three phase power plant with panel/controller for entire shop
? 53 amps per leg 240 volt three phase output (22 kw) from single phase input with additional upgrade capability to 106 amps per leg (44kw)
? Integrated design of three phase panel with standard rotary converter components allowing orderly power distribution to multiple machines
? Simple connection of all shop machines to single phase power supply
? Switching by compact three pole breakers for all shop machines
? Ease of adding additional idler motor(s) to increase power capacity, with option of running only the idlers needed for machine load at any given time
? Power loss protection with shutdown of entire three phase power plant upon unexpected power interruption, and prevention of automatic restarting of any connected machines upon return of power
? Phase loss protection due to short circuit or sustained overload on one or more legs for all machines, preventing single-phasing of motors
? Shielding of the panel bus and all connected machines from the start capacitor voltage surge during starting of idler converter motor, protecting control boards of any machines inadvertently connected during starting of the converter
Limitations:
? No phase loss protection to running connected machines resulting from shutdown for whatever reason of the converter idler motor(s); such protection would require a split panel bus design, or a separate panel dedicated solely to supplying power to load machines
? Design shown is not balanced, and improvements in both voltage and current regulation and overall power factor could be achieved by adding run capacitors between the other single phase leg and the generated leg
