| |Math |MATERIALS |

|MONDAY |Objective: Students will find the area of rectilinear figures by decomposing them. |SmartBoard |

| |Standard: 3.MD-7d Recognize area as additive. Find areas of rectilinear figures |Whiteboards |

| |by decomposing them into non-overlapping rectangles and adding the areas of the |Markers |

| |non-overlapping parts, applying this technique to solve real world problems. |Grid Paper |

| |Procedures: | |

| |1. TW review concepts of area and how to find the area of a square or rectangle. | |

| |2. TC will discuss real world concepts where you might have to tile an area that consisted of two or three | |

| |squares or rectangles that were connected but not overlapping (tiling a kitchen or bathroom floor, tiling a | |

| |backsplash, tiling a classroom floor, or laying carpet in a house). | |

| |3. TW show the class how you can find the area of each individual rectangle and then add the area of each | |

| |rectangle to find the overall area of the room/floor/ | |

| |4. CW practice solving various examples provided by the teacher. | |

| |5. TW show examples on the SmartBoard. | |

| |6. SW work with a partner to solve on white boards. | |

| |7. CW share and discuss answers. | |

| |8. SW use grid paper to create rectilinear figures that do not overlap. | |

| |9. SW decompose the shapes to find their area and add the areas together to come up with the overall are of the | |

| |object. | |

| |Homework: None Due to PASS Testing | |

| |Assessment: Review/Discussion/Tiling Activity/SmartBoard Activity | |

|TUESDAY|Objective: Students will find the perimeter of various objects. |Green Math Books |

| |Standard: 3-5.5 Generate strategies to determine the perimeters of polygons. |Other Materials as Needed |

| |Procedures: | |

| |1. CW review concepts regarding perimeter such as how to find perimeter, how to | |

| |find the perimeter of a square when one side is given, how to find the perimeter of a | |

| |rectangle when two sides are given, and how to find the length of a missing side | |

| |when the perimeter is given. | |

| |2. CW review how to find perimeter when no unit of measure is given. | |

| |3. CW review problems 10-13 on page 319 of green math book as a class. | |

| |Homework: None Due to PASS Testing | |

| |Assessment: Review/Problems 10-13 | |

|WEDNESD|Objective: Students will find the area of various objects. |Green Math Books |

|AY |Standard: 3.MD-7a Find the area of a rectangle with whole-number side lengths |Other Materials as Needed |

| |by tiling it, and show that the area is the same as would be found by multiplying the | |

| |side lengths. | |

| |Procedures: | |

| |1. CW review concepts regarding area such as how to find the area of a square or rectangle when tiles are | |

| |present, and how to find the area of a square or rectangle when units of measure (inches, feet, yards, miles, | |

| |etc.) are given. | |

| |2. CW review Monday’s lesson. | |

| |3. CW review problems 1-11 and 16 and 17 on pages 320-321 in green math book. | |

| |Homework: None Due to PASS Testing | |

| |Assessment: Review/Discussion/Problems in Green Math Book | |

|THURSDA|Objective: Students will complete unit test on area and perimeter. |Unit Tests |

|Y |Standard: 3.MD-5 – 3.MD-8 and 3-5.5 | |

| |Procedures: | |

| |1. SW complete unit test on area and perimeter. | |

| |Homework: None Due to PASS Testing | |
