3rd/4th grade division Rules:Illinois High School Association (I.H.S.A.) rules will apply with the following exceptions: 3rd/4th grade league will use “Junior” size basketballs (size 5, 27.5 inch).The hoop will be at 9 feet high. Games will be four (4) quarters at eight (8) minutes with a running clock. There will NOT be any overtime periods if there is a tie at the end of regulation time. Break time between quarters and halftime will be determined by the referee & scorekeeper.Clock will stop on all whistles in the last one (1) minute of the 4th quarter unless a team is leading by 10 points or more, the clock will NOT stop. Clock will also stop on timeouts, injury stoppage and at the discretion of the referee or scorekeeper. Teams will receive two (2) timeouts per half. SUBSTITUTIONS: Substitutions may only be made when the ball is not in play. This is at a dead ball or whistle. The player must check in with the scorekeeper and wait for the referee to wave players into the game.The three-second (3) rule will apply in the free throw lane. All fouls will be called. Each player will be allowed five (5) personal fouls per game. On the 7th team foul (in a half), a 1-and-1 bonus will be used. This means if the shooter makes the first free throw attempt, the shooter will get a second attempt. If the shooter misses the first attempt, the ball is live and in play off of the rebound. On the 10th team foul and any foul committed thereafter, a “double bonus” will be used where the shooter gets two free throw attempts.On free throws, players will shoot from taped line which is 13 feet from the baseline. Shooter & players may enter the lane after the ball hits the rim. If the ball does not hit the rim, it is a turnoverScore WILL be kept but standings ARE NOT kept. The coach will not be allowed on the court and must stay within their “coaches box” unless requested on the court by referee. Press Rule: One defender is allowed to go past the free throw arc extended. Defenders may press in the last two (2) minutes of the game, ONLY when a team is losing or tied.
