The month of May is packed with activities for both students and families. We hope to see you at our parental involvement events throughout the month! Our FSA testing in grades 3-5 continues. Students have worked very hard this year, and we are ready for them to show off what they have learned. Please root for our Tigers as they are taking their standards based assessments throughout the next few weeks.RecognitionsA very special shout out goes to Mrs. Nolte and her gifted program! Our students participated in the Science Olympiad in Orlando, and they brought home several medals. Overall, NES Science Olympiad team placed 8th out of 42 different teams that participated. Additionally, several students from Mrs. Nolte’s class will be recognized this month at Florida Atlantic University at Boca Raton for placing first and second out of 30 teams participating in the Treasure Coast Stock Market Game earlier this year. Way to go Tigers!Teacher Appreciation WeekTeacher Appreciation Week falls on the same week with the busiest testing week of the year. Our Parent Teacher organization has decided to postpone our celebration to the week of May 13 in order to pamper our teachers with treats while we are not testing. If you would like to be part of the planning and set up for the Teacher Appreciation Week, please contact Dr. Tuuli Robinson at (863)462-5100, or via e-mail at robinsont@okee.k12.fl.us.We would like to thank all of our families for a wonderful school year! Your child brought home an informational flyer on Monday, April 29. Zone waiver program is used to allow families to choose between schools to best suit their needs. Usually, schools have special programs that might attract families outside their zoned school. NES is known for our family-oriented environment as well as for our gifted program that is housed right on our campus. We offer grade-level field trips as far as to Saint Augustine in order to extend the learning experiences outside the classrooms. This combined with our high academic achievement has made NES a sought after school for families in and outside our school zone. Currently, we serve approximately 160 students in grades K-5 who live outside of our school zone. Students who are currently attending our school will NOT need to turn in another zone waiver application. ?We know that the families that are here value our dedication to academic success. Keeping this in mind, we will carefully consider students’ attendance as well as their behavior records when approving new applications or reviewing the existing zonewaivers.
