Book Fair is almost here!

Time to stock up for summer reading. Book Fair purchase week is May 9th – May 13th. Students will preview books the week before during media classes. Please volunteer to help or come shop with your child. Sign up details and class times are in the following link:



The fall Book Fair sales were over $11,000! After some great incentives from Scholastic our sales earned our school over $6,000 in new books that are currently on their way into classrooms and the media center. Please come see us and support the book fair. In addition to class purchase times the fair will be open Tuesday – Friday (5/10-5/13) morning starting at 7:30am and Thursday night (5/12) during Family Night Dinner.

3rd-4th-5th Grade Bowling Extravaganza

McKee PTA invites students to join their schoolmates at AMC Carolina Lanes in Matthews on Friday, May 6th from 4:00 to 5:30 pm (sign in from 3:30 to 4). For $8.00 students will bowl, rent shoes, have a slice of pizza, soda and most of all…some fun!

All students must be registered by April 29. No early dismissal from school for this event.

At least one chaperone per class is needed as well as volunteers to assist with sign in/out. Please contact Mike or Talya Tateo at tater327@ to volunteer for this awesome event!

NEHS Lemonade Stand this Saturday, April 30th

The McKee National Elementary Honor Society is sponsoring lemonade stands in Deerfield Creek and Willowmere neighborhoods on Saturday, April 30, 1:30PM – 3:30PM.  All proceeds for this service project will benefit breast cancer awareness and research. Please stop by Deerfield Creek or Willowmere for a refreshing drink of lemonade!!!

May PTA meeting – 5/12

Mark your calendars for the PTA General Meeting on May 12th at 6:30 pm. The 1st graders will perform a choral presentation directed by Mrs. Tsinztos and there will be a schoolwide Art Show featuring students’ artwork from throughout the year presented by Mrs. Arem.

RUN! BALLANTYNE EVENT!

You should have received a flyer in the Thursday folders for the Run! Ballantyne event taking place on May 14th at the new Sara’s YMCA. This is a family event which helps the YMCA fund much-needed programs in the community. There are 8K, 5K and 1 mile fun-run events to choose from. We are hoping to get a team together to run the 5K, but you can register for any event. If we have 20 participants (in any race), we will receive special race tees with our school’s name on the sleeve, so let’s aim high!! You can register online at .

Congratulations to Mrs. Davis’ First Grade Class

Congratulations to Mrs. Davis' first grade class. The class was one of the Top 100 Classrooms in the country for most minutes read using the BOOK IT! The students read over 95,000 minutes, contributing to the total of 8.1 million minutes read this year.

To honor this achievement, a Top 100 Award was given and a pizza party will be held in the next couple of weeks. Way to go first grade!!!

Teacher Workday on May 27th – No school of students

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is pleased to share that Superintendent Clark has waived the Friday, May 27, severe weather make-up day, allowing students and their families to fully enjoy the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Students will not report to school on May 27 and it will be a teacher workday as originally scheduled. Monday, April 25, will remain a student make-up day as planned. Again, CMS has waived the Friday, May 27, severe weather make-up day. Students will not report to school on May 27.
