CHAPTER 1
WHAT WAS THE SECOND WORLD WAR?
INTRODUCTION
The Second World War was fought from 1939 to 1945. It was the most widespread War in the history of mankind. Most of the countries from all over the world took part in this war. These countries were divided into two groups called the Allied Powers and Axis Powers.
Allied Powers – Those countries that fought against Germany, were Britain, France, America, Russia, Australia, Jamaica, India and China.
Axis Powers – They were Germany, Japan, Italy, Albania and Bulgaria.
OUTCOME OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR
The first world war brokeout in 1914 and ended in 1918.
1. Germany was defeated by the Allies in the first World War.
2. The Allied powers wanted to punish Germany for the damages caused by the War.
3. Germany was forced to sign and accept the terms of peace at the treaty of Versailles in 1919.
LEAGUE OF NATIONS
After the first World War, all the nations joined together to form an organisation known as League of Nation.
Its aim was to bring International peace and security in the World.
CAUSES FOR THE SECOND WORLD WAR
According to the Treaty of Versailles Germany had lost everything –
1. Land was taken away from Germany
2. Germany’s Military strength was cut down.
3. Germany had to accept full responsibility of the First World War, so that Germany had to pay huge sums of money as compensation to Allied Powers.
4. Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Nazi Party violated the condition of the Treaty of Versailles.
5. The rise of Nazism and facism.
6. The weakness of the League of Nations.
On 1st September 1939 Germany invaded Poland. As a response to Germany’s attack Britain and France declared War on Germany on 3rd September 1939. The Second World War brokeout.
The Nazi Party
The National Socialist German Workers Party (NAZIS) came to power in 1933. It was led by Adolf Hitler. Nazism stands for extreme racism and authoritarian views. The Nazi Party promised to regain the land taken from Germany. By 1932 the Nazi Party was the biggest party in Germany. Hitler made the people to believe that it is the only party which can save Germany.
End of the Second World War
Japan decided to invade China. At the same time on 7th December 1941, Japan bombed U.S Ships in Pearl Harbour. On August 6th 1945 American Aircrafts dropped the first Atom Bomb on Hiroshima and on August 9th on the city of Nagasaki, that was the end of the Second World War.

Racism - Belief in the superiority of a particular race.
