We arelooking forward to working with our students to help each and every one succeed in class. Ourgoals are to develop proficiency with mathematical skills, expand understanding of math concepts, improve logical thinking, and promote success in standardized testing and future math classes.Recommended SuppliesPencilsHighlighters 3 graphing composition notebooks (please bring ALL 3 with the students names on them to class during the first week of school).A two pocket folder to keep returned assignments in. Access to a scientific calculator to assist with homework.Classroom Donations: Always greatly appreciated!KleenexClorox WipesGrading:Homework Participation– 15% (4 points per normal homework assignment)Classwork/Formative Assessments/Homework Formative - 20%Individual Tests - 50%Team Tests – 15%If a student falls below a 70%, they should seek assistance (talk to teacher, attend tutoring, etc.).Homework:Homework is worth a maximum of 4 points. Work must be shown. Points will be given based on effort and completion. Homework will be assigned almost every day. Late homework is accepted 1 day late, but is worth a maximum of 2 points (half credit).Students will be given a homework sheet on Mondays. This sheet should be kept and turned in on Friday. Part of the homework grade will include having a parent/guardian sign the sheet on Thursday night. Homework summaries will be given every Friday. This grade will be part of the classwork/homework formative assessment grade. Students that are absent are responsible for getting the homework and completing it in the same number of days that the student was absent.Individual Tests:Students will have the opportunity to retake any test under the following strict guidelines:The retake must be scheduled with the teacher.The retake test score will be the average of the retake and the original test.In order to qualify to retake the test, students must fill out a Request to Retest Form with:Corrections to the original test completed on a separate sheet of paper.Any missing homework assignments must be completed prior to retake.Reflection on original test score.Parent and Student Signature.Students will have the opportunity to retake each test once within two weeks from the date the original test was returned.Retakes cannot be taken the week before the end of each trimester. Team Tests:If a student is absent the day of a team test, he/she will complete the team test individually when he/she returns.Team tests cannot be retaken.If a student has more than two missing homework assignments per unit, the student will take the team test individually.PowerSchool:PowerSchool is available to view the academic progress of the student in class.To access PowerSchool a username and password must be obtained and is available in the main office.Ultimately, it is the student/parent responsibility to know their grade at all times. You can track the grade on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis as necessary.Additional Guidelines and Expectations:Middle School students are young adults and should act as such. The biggest classroom rule is that everyone be respectful. Anything outside of this type of behavior is unacceptable and will be dealt with according to the Armada Middle School Handbook.Exemplary behavior is expected when a substitute is present.All the Armada Middle School Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Policies apply in our classrooms.Parents/Guardians: Feel free to contact us any time you would like throughout the school year to check on your child’s progress.
