Students will have class assignments, tests, quizzes and projects. In addition, students in eighth grade will keep a Current Events journal. Each week, students will evaluate a current event provided in class. At the end of each nine weeks, the students will turn in their Current Events journal for a grade. Students will also keep a binder which will contain all of their classwork throughout the year. These binders will be graded at the end of each nine weeks. Each assessment has a certain number of points associated with it. A class activity might have a point value of ten while a test will likely have a higher point value. To calculate a student’s average, you will add all points earned by the total points possible in a nine week grading period. For example, if a student earned 450 points in a nine week period and the total points possible was 500, you would take 450 and divide it by 500 which equals 0.9…or 90%. Academic DishonestyAny form of cheating will not be tolerated. If a student is found cheating on any assignment or test, the student will receive an automatic zero on that assignment or test.
