Studio Art Syllabus

Objective – Studio Art is a survey course. It is designed to teach the students a variety of techniques using various media. In Studio Art students will study the Elements of art and Principles of design. Students will use a variety of materials to learn to better understand Art composition. The curriculum will follow the New York State Art Standards and the Common Core Learning Standards.

Sketchbook – All students will be required to keep a sketchbook. Sketchbook assignments will vary depending on the student and projects.

Pre/Post Exam – The students will be required to take a Pre-test and a Post-test. The Pre-test will NOT be graded, but instead will be used as a guide for me to follow and design instruction. The Post-test WILL count as part of your final exam.

← Small Notebook

← A couple of pencils

← A black ultra thin sharpie marker

← A pink pearl eraser

Grading:

Student work will be graded according to effort, following directions, and technique. Students will always be graded according to their work ethic. A grading rubric will be used for every in-class assignment.

Students may have a sketchbook assignment weekly. Students are expected to turn in the completed assignment when due. Sketchbook assignments will be considered a homework assignment and will be counted within the 10% homework grade.

Grades will be calculated in the following manner:

Quarter grades will be made up of Project grades and sketchbook grades.

Project/In class grades 90%

Sketchbook/homework grades 10%

Final Grade

Quarter I - IV 20% per quarter

Final Project/test 20%
