Conference Hours: Monday & Friday (12:30 – 1:30)

Tutoring: Wednesday morning (8:15-8:35)

Course Description: The Blended Learning Academy is a combination of online instruction, individual or small group activities, individual or small group projects, and short small group seminars. This blend of instruction allows students to move at their own pace with guidance from the teacher with a more personalized approach. Students are responsible for coming prepared and being on task during the Math Content Block.

The Blended Learning Academy has a modified block schedule. I meet with students twice during the week during their math block and with all students on Friday. During the block period students will go through a station rotation. There is no set rotation times for these stations, but they are monitored by the teacher. As an example, a student may start the block in a small seminar on a targeted subject (such as fractions) with guided instruction by the teacher followed by practice and assessments. The student then may be in the group for computer instruction time (mostly on Edgenuity). While on Edgenuity, students must take notes from videos and from practice labs and quizzes. They will take online quizzes to show mastery of the skills. The third station for the student is the project/activity stations. Here students may work individually or in small groups on projects or activities to show mastery of content through creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking skills (21st Century Skills).

Students should devote at least 30 minutes to an hour every evening either on the computer or on activities or projects for math. Students should be motivated and self-driven to monitor their progress and mastery of the math standards and skills for the CCGPS 8th Grade Math Standards. Parents may find these standards at the following link:

Students in the 7th/8th Advance Math class are expected to focus most of their studies on the 8th Grade Math Standards. Students are completing diagnostic assessments to gauge their level of readiness for 8th Grade Math Content. 7th Grade Math Standards in need of review or relearning will be spiraled into each students learning path. Each student in the 7th Grade Advance Math class will complete all 7th and 8th grade CCGPS standards in preparation for the next school year class of Coordinate Algebra, a 9th grade class. Students will need to be focused and determined to meet set goals during the year to accomplish this wonderful milestone.

Websites: There are no textbooks for this class. Students will have the following websites to use for their references and resources:

Students will record their login usernames and passwords for each of these in their agendas and notebooks. Parents will also be given portals to these programs to monitor their student’s progress. (To be sent later.)

85% will include the Edgenuity grade, benchmark and summative assessment grades, and the Point System grade.

Formative assessments, such as Ticket Out the Door and quizzes, may be used toward Point System grade.

Classwork/Projects/Activities/Homework: Students will be given many choices of classwork and homework that is

tailored to their needs. These are worth between 10-25 points depending on the amount of work shown and correct.

There are various projects and activities for students to choose from to show mastery and application of the math

content and skills. These projects and activities can range from 25-250 points depending on the project and the

amount of effort applied and correctness and quality of work. Students are expected to show all work and be able

to explain their work as this is the direction of the new Georgia Milestones Assessment this year.

Test and Final Exams: During the school year, benchmark assessments and common summative assessments will be

given to monitor student progress at certain intervals. This will help students, teachers, and parents to know if

students are achieving set goals for the school year. There will be a Semester Final Exam at the end of each

semester. These assessments will include some multiple choice, short answers, and constructed responses. Students

must now be able to explain their answers and find and explains mistakes and steps in detail.

In-class Expandable File Folders and Portfolios: Students are required to maintain an expandable file folder in

the classroom. This is to help them organize notes, activities, and projects. They will keep activity sheets and

projects in these folders for conference with the teachers. At conference time or at times designated by teachers,

students will submit the activities/projects/homework sheets for consideration in their point count. Students will

also maintain a Student Portfolio at all times for parent conferences or presentations to administration or observing

teachers.

BYOT: Students may bring in their own technology to use in the classroom. The homeroom teacher must receive

the BYOT Agreement signed by the parent and student in order for student to do so. Remember that the school

and teachers are NOT responsible for the technology students bring in. Students must also remember that using

their technology in an inappropriate manner will result in losing this privilege.

Classroom Procedures:

1. Bring your notebook, agenda, and pencils to every class.

2. Copy all posted homework assignments (including materials necessary, assignment requirements, and due

dates) in your agendas.

3. Remain in your seat unless otherwise directed by the teachers.

4. Begin work in assigned station upon entering room.

5. Stay on task working at station independently or with your group. Voices must be kept low out of respect

of others working individually.

6. Respond to questions and participate in class discussions respectfully by raising your hand and waiting to be recognized before speaking to avoid too many voices talking at once.

7. Each student will organize materials and clean their work areas before they rotate to a new station or

leave the classroom.
