Resources: Students will not be issued a textbook; however a variety of other math material will be used that relate to the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards. Also, numerous websites will be available to further enhance learning.

• Math Consumable: Mastering the CCGPS Grade 8($11.00 per student). This book can only be purchased through the school in bulks or more.

It is imperative that students pay attention during instructional time, take notes, ask questions, review notes, complete all assignments, and study for all tests.

Materials: red 3 ring-binder (1 to 2 inch-hardcover) with notebook paper, spiral/composition notebook, 5 dividers, pencils, colored pencils, highlighters, graph paper, ruler, index cards, flash drive

Grading Scale: A (90 and above) B (80 – 89) C (74 – 79) D (70 – 73) F (Below 70)

Grading Policy: Assessments 65%

Practice Work 20%

Final 15%

Tests/Projects: Common Formative Assessments will be given approximately every four weeks. Projects will be given throughout the semesters. They will consist of performance tasks related to the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards. It is imperative that students review their notes daily.

Classwork/Quizzes: It is the policy at Austin Road Middle School that classwork is due on the day it is assigned. However, some classwork assignments in math will become homework. Quizzes can be given any time to check for understanding and re-teaching throughout a unit. It is imperative that students review their notes daily.

Final Exam: A cumulative final exam will be given at the end of each semester. It is 15% of the final grade.

Homework: It is the policy of Austin Road Middle School to assign homework as a reinforcement of concepts learned in class; however, it is up to the discretion of the individual teacher as to whether it is assigned daily or over the weekend. If students do not have written homework assignments, they are to study their notes a minimum of 20 minutes. Evaluation of homework may consist of detailed grading, generalized checking, or a combination of both techniques.

Absence/Make-Up Procedures: Upon returning to school following an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the teacher to request make-up work. The student must complete make-up work within the time specified by the teacher. At Austin Road Middle School, the student will be given the same amount of time to make up the work as the student was absent unless other arrangements are mutually agreed upon. See student handbook on excused absences.

Late work Policy: Assignments are due at the start of class the following day or date specified. There will be a 30 point deduction from the actual grade. Day 2, the highest grade you can receive is a 50. Assignments will not be accepted after the third day.

Provision for Improving Grade: Students will be given the opportunity to improve their class average through extra credit. The extra credit assignments will be offered to all students regardless of their current class average. The extra credit assignments will be assigned at the teacher’s discretion.

Classroom Expectations: Be polite and respectful to everyone; follow instructions the first time they are given; be prepared for class with all material; ask for permission to leave your seat at all times.

Teacher/Parent Communication: An open line of communication is encouraged between teachers and parents. This could be via email, phone, agenda, or in-person. Parental visits are encouraged; however, it is the policy of Austin Road Middle School that all parents give teachers 24-hour notice and report to the office to obtain a “visitor pass” before going to other parts of the building.
