Staff

Head Coach Shannon Mincey enters her 8th season as the all-time winningest volleyball coach at Carson-Newman. She guided her 2010 team to an overall 20-11 record and a first round win in the NCAA regional tournament for the second consecutive year. She has worked camps for 15 years and has a passion for youth development and team unity. She has traveled overseas using volleyball as a tool to share her faith. Carson-Newman College players will also serve as staff. They have worked this camp for many years and add so much enthusiasm and energy to the camp. Additional college coaches and players will also serve as camp staff.

FACILITIES

Carson-Newman offers the ideal setting for a fun-filled camp. Holt fieldhouse (Maddox Center) houses five volleyball courts so players / teams can stay close to each other during individual training. Adult staff members will live in the residence hall with the campers in addition CNC provides residence hall and campus security. A trainer will be available for our camps.

Check-in

All campers should check in at the main lobby of MADDOX CENTER 30 min prior to start time. Residents will check-in directly to assigned dorm. MADDOX is located on Branner Avenue.

Insurance

Carson-Newman has acquired camp insurance.

HOUSING

Players who wish to follow the resident camp option will be housed in one of the CNC air-conditioned residence halls. Resident campers must provide their own linens.

Middle SchoOL Camp-Most Popular!

Rising 6th-8th grade 7/21-23

Our middle school camp has grown so much we have expanded our sessions so that players will gain even more of an interest in the sport. Individuals may stay overnight or commute. This is the perfect age to stay in a supervised dorm, eat meals on campus, swim, and learn the fundamentals of volleyball, and bond with teammates and new friends. Last year’s Middle School was a huge success. There were many girls who attended on their own and made friends as the camp went on. There were several girls who came with their middle school team. If your middle school team wants to attend but your coach can not you will be in good hands! If you want to attend to get better then sign up and we will help you learn all the skills while placing you on a team with other girls. Players learned so much about the game. high school Team camp 1-Most Popular!

Rising 9th-12th grade 7/25-27

Teams will train in our air-conditioned 5 court facility, competing in scrimmages, match and tournament play. Players will also receive individual position instruction during the day. Head Coach Shannon Mincey specializes in team bonding activities, development of leadership skills, and communication exercises which will help your team start out the season with a positive vision. A coach’s clinic will also be held to share new drills and ideas to help you kick off a great year. College players and coaches will interact with your team to make this a fun-filled and competitive pre-season camp. Teams may attend our setter/hitter/libero clinic Sunday and stay. high school 2 Day Play Camp

Rising 9th-12th grade 7/28-29

Teams will compete only. This will be a round robin style format. Lots and Lots of Play. Coaches will have the opportunity to coach their team and instruct them during play. Teams who spend the night can use the extra time to bond. See our camp website for the camp itinerary.

Setter/Hitter/Libero Clinic

Rising 8th-12th grade 2 p.m.-5 p.m. 7/24

Players will have the opportunity to train in their respective position. This camp moves fast with each player receiving a lot of repetition. The camp will then combine the positions so that they are working together and being coached within their position with the other positions. This is a very popular camp. Early registration is encouraged to assure a spot. 100 campers only. High School Jrs. and Srs. will come an hour early and play with college players as a recruiting showcase.

1:00-2:00 Juniors and Seniors Play in Main Gym

2:00-4:00 All Campers receive instruction

4:00-5:00 Positions (according to skill) combined to be trained in a competitive environment.

Elementary School Day Camp

Rising 2nd-5th grade 9am-11:45am 7/18-20

Young players will be introduced to the sport of volleyball learning all the fundamentals. We use creative, fun, and exciting drills to get them excited about volleyball. Youth lite volleyballs, balloons and beach balls are used. The players have a lot of fun and meet new friends. We highlight the importance of exercise and how sports can build confidence. Parents may drop their campers off or stay and watch. See camp website for details.

Middle School Day Camp

Rising 6th-9th grade 1 p.m.-3:45 p.m. 7/18-20

Middle School Players will receive instruction on each skill. A breakdown of fundamentals will be covered. Players will receive a lot of repetition on each skill. Players will not be placed into a team 6 vs. 6 situation…only fundamentals will be covered during this camp. Rising 9th graders may attend if they feel they need to brush up on their skills. High School Skills Clinic/Free Play

Rising 9th-12th grade 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m.7/18-20

High School Players will have the opportunity to attend our skills clinic each evening. The first half will be drills and the last half will be 6 vs. 6. Coach Mincey will lead 6 on 6 wash drills and other team situations where high school players can play against each other. This will be a great opportunity for players to fine tune their skills before their season begins. See camp website for details.
