SYLLABUS FOR NINTH GRADE ADAVANCED WORLD HISTORY

Ninth Grade World History begins with the development of the Renaissance period in Italy and Northern Europe and ends with the post-WWII world. This chronological survey will provide students with a basic knowledge of major political and economic issues, popular movements and personalities. Knowledge of these cause and effect relationships is necessary to understand the development of the socio-political and socio-economic realities of the world we live in today.

Development in the Early Global Age

2nd 9 Weeks: * WWII

* Science & the Age of Enlightenment * Post WWII & Reconstruction

* Age of Revolution * Nationalism, Militarism, Cold War

* Technological & Industrial Revolution * Emerging Democracies

* Socio-Economic & Political Theories * War on Terror

Required Materials: MacBook Air. Textbook: World History: Modern Times, Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, 2005. Any destruction or loss of book will result in a fine to the student. Classroom books will not be taken from the room!! You will be assigned a book for home use. Claims of missing or damaged MacBooks must be reported with 24 hours.

The Freshman Academy 3-ring binder, a pen (blue or black), a pencil, and your computer will be required daily. Depending on assignments during the year, colored pencils/markers & poster paper may be needed.

ATTENDANCE AND BEHAVIOR in the classroom are important factors in learning. Please make sure your student is ready to learn in the classroom and has the ability to participate respectfully.

Students need to be present for classes in order to maintain notes and information on a daily basis. Students are responsible for getting notes from someone when absent.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY POLICY: See student handbook. Copying another student’s homework is considered dishonest. Cheating will not be tolerated. DO YOUR OWN WORK!

ACCOMMODATION: Reasonable accommodations may be given in accordance with Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Tests/Grading: The History Department of Oxford High School will use the following standard assessment for grading:

Tests 50%

Class work 25%

Projects/Presentations 15%

Homework/Quizzes 10%

Assignments are due on the date assigned. Students have three days to make up missed work due to excused absences. Students should be prepared to take makeup tests as quickly as possible in order to keep them from overlapping information and becoming overwhelmed. Pre-reading is essential to understanding history material. Projects/readings/essays will be assigned as required. Please note that grades are by percentages. Tests are 50% of the students’ grades and will ultimately either fail or pass a student. Study guides are only available for 9-weeks tests and semester tests. Extra credit assignments will not be given as a method to change a student’s grade.
