Product Setup Instructions:

To setup your BatteryMax Universal Battery Charger, first ensure that the package contains all the listed materials. If the package is missing any component, please contact your place of purchase for an exchange.

Start by placing the battery charger on a level surface near your computer. Take the provided cross-over Ethernet cable and plug it into the Ethernet jack on the side of the device. Plug the other end into an available Ethernet port on your personal computer. (You will need to set your IP address to 192.168.2.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.) Take the power cable and plug it into the side of the device. Make sure the power switch is in the off position. Take the other end of the device and plug it into a standard 110V power outlet. For initial setup, do not connect one of the rechargeable battery connectors.

When everything is connected, and the computer is set up to communicate with the device, it is ready to be powered on.

Product Use Instructions:

Charging, Draining, and Testing

Once the BatteryMax Universal Battery Charger is set up correctly, it is almost ready to start charging a battery. To charge a battery, first make sure the device is turned off. Second, plug a rechargeable battery connector into the universal battery connector port on the device. Turn the device on. The device will automatically detect a battery when it is placed into the universal battery connector.

Plugging in a battery will trigger the “New Battery” menu to appear. From this menu the user will be able to select a common battery type or define a new battery type.

If you have already specified the parameters of the battery for a previous charge, you may select its Battery ID from the SelID menu to load its settings. Otherwise, choose SelID from the New menu. Press the up or down button then press Enter to select an unused Battery ID to use for this new battery. If all Battery IDs are in use, select one of them to replace with the new battery. Next, move to the Setup menu and specify the Voltage, Current Capacity, and Technology of the new battery using the appropriate menu options. Once these three parameters have been specified, we are ready to begin charging.

To begin charging, press Back until you reach the main menu, then select Chrg to move to the Charge menu. At this point, make sure that the settings that are displayed on the LCD directly above the menu are correct for the battery that you intend to charge. Press Chrg again to start the charging process. The display will change and will show you the instantaneous voltage and current being applied to the battery along with the current temperature of the battery and the temperature inside the device. BatteryMAX will record these parameters at certain intervals during the charging process and they may be viewed on the Battery Statistics page of the embedded website. You may terminate the charging process at any time by selecting the Stop menu option.

The process for discharging a battery begins similarly to charging, but you do not need to pre-define the parameters of the battery before starting. To begin discharging a battery, move back to the main menu, then select Drain. Select Drain a second time to begin the draining process. Many types of rechargeable batteries work better if they are completely discharged before being recharged.

BatteryMAX may also be used as a battery tester. If you’re not sure whether or not a battery is fully charged, use the Test feature to check its voltage against the voltage listed on the label. To start testing, move back to the main menu, then select the Status menu. The battery’s voltage will be displayed on the LCD.

Built-in Web Server

To access the built in website, make sure that the device is connected to the computer properly and is turned on. Open up a web browser and browse to the address . If you would like to contact Power4 for sales or support, click on the Contact Us page.

The BatteryMAX Settings page may be used to control the device remotely through keypresses or to make quick changes to settings. This page also has an Emergency Shutoff option which lets you instantly terminate any charging or draining process.

Charging or Draining Statistics can be viewed on the Battery Statistics page. Click on the Battery ID next to either Current or Voltage to see a graph of recently recorded data from charging or discharging the battery.
