Social Studies Classroom Based Assessment (CBA)

Coastal vs. Plateau Presentation

Mission/Checklist

Congratulations! You have been hired by the Washington State History Museum! Your first job is to create a website that presents several comparisons between a Washington State Coastal Indian Tribe and a Plateau Indian Tribe of your choice. You are to research their similarities and differences and present your findings using a Keynote presentation that you will make to the class.

First, you will need to decide which two tribes you will compare. Use the Boise State website Comparison on Coastal and Plateau Tribes-use the link below -

-linked on Mr. Dalton’s Coastal/Plateau CBA website to find which tribes you can choose.

Next, begin your research. The museum has supplied you with several worksheets that must be completed to collect facts for your presentation. Follow the directions on the worksheets to complete their information. Notice that several weblinks are in some of the worksheets-use them to help with your research!

After your research is completed, use the template Keynote presentation that the museum has supplied you. Use the template instructions on each slide, but don’t forget to add photos or drawings that best demonstrate your research. You may also add additional slides if you wish to show additional research. Important-you cannot simply cut and paste your research-the words on your slides must be your own words. A failing grade will be given if you copy another person’s work and claim it as your own!

After that, add your Presenter Notes to your Keynote. Your Notes should provide an explanation to a slide, and not simply repeat the words on the slide. Then, add your citations for your research onto your Works Cited page. Finally, you will present your Keynote presentation to the class. These will begin around April 11, and continue into the following week if needed.

Checklist for Presentation

1)______________ Decide on your Coastal and Plateau tribes. Place those names on the first slide of your Keynote presentation, along with your name.

2)______________ Complete both Coastal and Plateau Tribe Worksheets, along with the Totem Pole Worksheet and Seasonal Round Worksheet. Show all four worksheets to Mr. Dalton when completed for a class grade. Failure to complete worksheets will reduce your final class grade.

3)_____________ Begin placing your findings about your two tribes into your Keynote presentation. Use the templates on each slide to decide which part of your research will be on each slide. These slides must be in your own words-“copy and paste” will result in a failing grade.

4)______________ Add photos, drawings, and other items that best explain your slides.

5)______________Create Presenter Notes in addition to your slide Notes. Include title with an illustration(s), and student’s name. Your Notes are clear explanations in your own words answering issues or questions that the slide might require.

6)___________Your final slide should be a Works Cited page, in which you display correctly created citations using Easy Bib or other citation web site. To pass this CBA, you must have a minimum of three correct citations on this page!

7)___________Present your “Tribal Comparison” Keynote to the class.
