Don't worry if you haven't heard from us, as this suggests there were no queries!

Parochial Fees The parochial fees for 2020 have not yet been released. Once they are these will be added to the finance pages of the diocesan website.

Charity Commission News and International Charity Fraud Awareness Week some simple steps In their latest newsletter The Charity Commission highlight annual reporting for registered charities, updated guidance for independent examination of charity accounts and a webform for reporting charity fraud.

As part of the International Charity Fraud Awareness Week (21 October to 25 October 2019) , the Charity Commission highlight some simple steps for fraud prevention:

introduce and enforce basic financial controls (for example have at least two signatories to bank accounts and cheques, undertaking regular bank reconciliations) make sure no one single individual has oversight or control of financial arrangements - effective segregation of duties is a crucial method of preventing and detecting fraud encourage staff, volunteers and trustees to speak out when they see something they feel uncomfortable about

Legacies and Giving in Memory

Will Aid As we talk to more people in our Diocese we are reminded how gifts in wills help keep churches alive and transform their futures. Gifts in wills can be an expression of one's gratitude and thanksgiving towards God.

In the last issue of Money for Mission we publicised Will

Aid. Will Aid is a special partnership between the legal profession and nine of the UK's best-loved charities. Every November, participating solicitors waive their fee for writing a basic will. Instead, they invite clients to make a voluntary donation to Will Aid (a suggested ?100 for a single basic will and ?180 for a pair of basic 'mirror' wills). The donation helps to fund the work of these charities and clients can then make a gift in their will to their church or any other charity.

Solicitors are inviting bookings now for November and appointments are still available.

Why not print it on the pew sheet and mention it in notices throughout the next month to encourage people to take advantage of this special offer.

PCC Legacy Kit In the Diocesan Office we have have a PCC toolkit that will guide you in promoting legacies in your church. Containing leaflets, a poster, a guide and a sample legacies policy this is an invaluable resource so contact us if you would like one.

Legacy Marketing Tip Promotion of legacies in your church is not easy and we understand the sensitivities around the issue. The key to great legacy promotion is talking about them little and often.

Has someone from your church left a gift in their will and have you spent it on something really special like a new window or bench, or used it to fund mission work? Talking about how their gift has enabled the life and work of the church to thrive is sometimes all it needs to prompt another person to do the same. Remember to give thanks and celebrate gifts in wills to all.

In Memory Giving

As a teacher at a C of E School near York, I used to visit our local church frequently with children for worship, learning and celebration. On one particular visit, the children were invited to handle the pew Bibles and were intrigued by the unique bookplates inside each one.

Previously, the church had invited people in the community to buy a Bible in celebration of the life of a loved one who had died and recorded their name and a loving message in the front. An inscription in the Bible is a fitting and lasting tribute to those we have loved and lost and needless to say, it stimulated lots of discussion among the children.

Donating or buying something in memory of someone is a very special and meaningful way to remember them - honouring their life and helping the church mission at the same time. If you are thinking of exploring in memory giving in your church please get in touch for ideas. Becky

Digital Fundraising

Free Contactless Offer With Visa We were delighted to see that 15 churches were successful in receiving the free contactless kit that has been supplied by Visa in partnership with Parish Buying advertised in issue 9 of the Treasurers' Update.

Those churches will soon be receiving their kit and we are here to help to give advice on how to maximise the opportunity to collect donations simply and conveniently in church. Please call if you need any help or advice.

If any other churches are keep to explore contactless giving, more information can be found on Parish Buying.

Quick and Easy Fundraising This year Waitrose are celebrating 10 years of their 'Community Matters' donation scheme. So far they have given away ?10 million to 100,000 community causes. The scheme works when shoppers put a green token into a box for the community cause they wish to support.

You can nominate your church to be one of these causes by popping into a store and completing a nomination form. It's quick and easy and may result in a gift of ?1000!

What is Community Matters - Waitrose

Tescos run a similar scheme called Bags of Help, donating the money they make through the sale of carrier bags to good causes. Go to the website to nominate your church project and you may be invited to apply for a grant or participate in their in-store token scheme. Funding

Listed Places of Worship VAT Grant The Listed Places of Worship Grant is a scheme whereby listed places of worship can reclaim the VAT charged on repair projects and alterations. It was due to come to an end in March 2020. However, the end date has been extended until end of March 2021.

Places of Worship Security Grants Places of worship and faith community centres can apply for an increased pot of funding to improve their physical security against potential hate attacks. The funding available for the Places of Worship Protective Security Funding Scheme has doubled and the application process has been streamlined. Read more about this scheme here. National News Church of England to help boost digital connectivity for local communities The Church of England has partnered with Cornerstone, the mobile infrastructure services company who own and manage sites for Telef?nica (O2) and Vodafone, to help deliver improved connectivity in areas currently suffering from poor mobile phone coverage.

For over 25 years churches have been hosting mobile phone infrastructure to provide service to people in the area, and this role has become more important with the advent of smartphones and other equipment which needs a connection to the internet. In

February 2018, an Accord was signed between the Government and the National Church Institutions to support this further and in particular to support poorly-served areas in the country. One of the commitments made by the National Church Institutions was to make available a national framework contract to make the process of placing such infrastructure in a church building as easy and efficient as possible. Churches wishing to express an interest in hosting mobile telecoms infrastructure can read more here and should contact the Church of England's delivery partner, NET Coverage Solutions Ltd, at CoE@netcs.eu Fundraising Around the Diocese
