Central Bedfordshire CollegeJob title:Careers AdvisorReporting to: Head of Student Recruitment, Employability and Career ChoicesScale: ?21,284 - ?23,964Main Purpose of the RoleTo provide impartial, high quality information and advice to our learners and prospective learners to allow them to make well informed and realistic career choices. To provide an effective careers service tailored to the needs of individual learners and to work closely with staff to deliver a high quality careers education programme. Working to support the careers and employability service, the role will ensure delivery of activities in the context of CEIAG including supporting students to access Higher Education and progress into positive destinations. Key accountabilities and responsibilities To act as a member of the Careers team, providing students with care, advice and guidance, from initial enquiry to successful completion and progression.To set up and organise a schedule of activities to cover the whole of the academic year.To ensure accuracy of data to ensure compliance with audit and inspection.To deliver information, advice and guidance at every stage of the learner journey including student recruitment activities, learner review meetings and progression support. To maintain a set of statistics in relation to CEIAG delivery including outputs and destinations of learners.To work with your line manager to develop the department to provide an effective support service that promotes student participation, achievement and progression. Higher Education and Learner ProgressionEncourage and advise students applying to university with the UCAS process and with careers guidance through group workshops and individual appointments.Administer the UCAS applications process and communicate key information and details to students and staff.Record CEIAG activities in appropriate IT systems and produce related statistics for reporting purposes.To facilitate gathering of progression and destination data through liaising with Learning Area Managers, advisers, tutorial and teaching staff. To contribute to retention and achievement by providing timely advice and guidance to those students ‘at risk’ of withdrawing from their course.To be able to achieve key performance indicators and ensure that activities and outcomes are completed in an accurate and timely manner. This will include careers action plans, data returns, client feedback and other related returns.Support Learning Area Managers, careers advisers, tutorial and teaching staff with CEIAG activities undertaken within each curriculum area. Careers and GuidanceTo ensure that the general advice and guidance delivered to prospective students by Careers staff is accurate and up to date.Deliver initial advice and guidance to prospective college learners as part of the student recruitment process.Deliver information, advice and guidance impartially to both college learners and those not enrolled at the college.Provide careers advice on a drop-in basis, or guidance through interviews by appointmentAssess learners’ interests, abilities and skills at every stage of the learner journey and relate these to opportunities for employment, further study or trainingAssist learners with making decisions and developing strategies to carry out career plans, job search and CV writingSupport learners in presenting themselves effectively in job applications and at interviewProvide a tailored careers service for particular coursesDevelop and maintain a careers resource area to include computer-based guidance tools and internet accessLiaise with employers and other external organisations such as Job Centre Plus to obtain information about opportunities, recruitment procedures and labour market trendsDevelop and implement appropriate ways to promote the service throughout the community.Deliver CPD activities for all staff in specific CEIAG related topics.Customer ServicesTo take responsibility for ensuring that all of the careers and guidance information being offered to prospective and current students is accurate and up to date or annotated appropriately to explain currency.Provide front of house services, including the receiving of visitors, staff and students and providing initial advice regarding course information and availability, including location of courses.Greet all customers professionally and politely welcoming them to the college and contributing to building a strong reputation for the collegeEnsure that reception area, notice boards and information points around the college are welcoming, tidy, and well stocked with college marketing and promotional materialTo assist students with the completion of any forms relevant to their learning or career choiceProvide assistance with the Enrolment process to ensure that students are provided with appropriate advice.Ensure the correct referral of the needs of individual learners based on your knowledge of services and support offered within the Student Services area and make appropriate appointments Team workWork closely with business support areas and learning areas to ensure a professional, streamlined service at all times.
