2005 Acura MDX Recent Repair History 12/2016 to present1) 12/2016 65,000 miles MDX had radiator leak between transmission oil line and radiator coolant(water) while driving to bayside, lucky had time to pull over (No Accident) and shut engine off after temperature gauge red lined for 30 seconds very cold outside and I let it cool for 1 hour before tow truck came. Saj Auto installed New Radiator, cleaned out coolant reservoir tank, Transmission drained and filled with Prestone automatic transmission fluid; mechanic stated transmission was contaminated needed to be power flushed otherwise it will start to slip in 3 to 6 months; went to Jiffy lube they said power flush would blow seals in Transmission they recommended to wait and if it slips then get new transmission/ rebuild it. 1 month later transmission started slipping on and off decided to wait and see if it would get worse then went to Valley Stream Acura they drove the MDX, they said no slipping problems and did oil change and flushed transmission and filled with Honda Transmission Fluid after several weeks ran fine then slipping continuously especially when transmission got hot; From March to August: slipping increased and I saw New OEM transmission advertised in best deal transmissions and parts Ebay channel. They remanufacture core and sell remanufactured trans with new internal o-rings, clutches, torque converter and seals, I drove only 250 miles since radiator leak. 4/2017 New rear wiper arm and blade installed. State Inspection Passed 7/20172) 09/2017 65,250 miles New OEM Transmission installed and New Torque Converter with large Transmission Cooler installed with 1year warranty, New stabilizer link on the right side, new radiator installed previous new radiator contaminated with transmission oil mix (strawberry shake) and coolant so recommended to replace again, new transmission solenoid installed, New Honda Transmission Fluid filled and Honda radiator fluid changed by RK trans shop; I drove 500 miles since 12/2016; addition 250 miles with new transmission. VS Acura recommended to power flush the radiator if gunk continues. New transmission installed and small leak reported by VS ACURA in May 2018 65,500 miles VS Acura reported the Trans Main seal leaking3) 4/2018 1st time P0300 code and EGR valve code P0406; installed New remanufactured EGR valve, New Starter, and Tune Up, New Engine Extra rigid Fram Air filter change every 12000 miles, PCV valve. Bosch spark plugs work completed at Saj Auto codes cleared and Sears brand central purchased new battery (at Hillside Ave) 4) 5/2018 1) New Timing belt, 2)New Water Pump installed (coupon), 3) new Radiator cap, 4)1st Radiator Coolant flush by Acura Valley Stream did flush because strawberry shake gunk coming out of engine and heater core into radiator and coolant reservoir they told me it needed to be power flushed and told me the old transmission may have been good and the slipping was because transmission fluid levels was low because of main seal leak I told them no because the old transmission was not leaking and they saw the SUV earlier (prior to New Trans) and they said then it was working fine. They did 3 radiator flushes via water pump and gravity because they said their radiator power flushing machine was not working, recommended to change spark plugs to NGK Honda OEM and get power radiator flush, new good year wiper blades installed, Engine bay cleaned with sponge and spray washed to remove any remaining coolant contamination and new engine cover installed (no pressure washing) Applied additional coats Rustoleum Rubberized Undercoating and High Temp aluminum paint to undercarriage no evidence of significant rust(thin surface rust found on struts, 3 cats, header, control arms, running boards hardware, exhaust pipes, muffler pipes, spare tire rim; (structures intact) and frame good intact no rust (5/2013 prior undercarriage coat by Maaco auto painting shop), high temp black paint applied to fire wall, .5/28/2018 Installed LED headlights in front, high low and fog lights 5) 6/1/2018 Firestone Levittown 4th Coolant Flush (1st power flush) radiator and reservoir looked better less gunk but recommended continued flushing every 3-6 months till clear. They insisted on Firestone Coolant Fluid. They topped the transmission fluid off said transmission leak from Trans main seal6) 6/26/2018 New Headlight Housing Installed at House of Tires in Levittown, , 07/01/2018 Gum Out one and done 20 0z poured into gas tank, State inspection at Saj Auto passed 7/15/2018 7) 8/2018 4 New Michelin tires installed at Costco, 8) 9/15/2018 66,400 miles Transmission leak evaluation while under warranty RK said no trans main seal leak; just casing loose so tightened casing bolts: after evaluation by RK trans shop still saw trans fluid in street under SUV but less than before.9) 9/18/2018 New battery installed Sears Valley Stream because old battery not holding charge do to not driving vehicle. with small transmission leak and P0300 code kept showing up with old battery , 10) 9/21/2018 Avital Engine Remote Starter installed by Parkway Stereo 2608 Hempstead Bethpage Turnpike # 1, East Meadow, NY 11554 11) 12/2018 Saj Auto did 1) Motor Oil Change, 2) 3 New Denso Ignition Coils in rear Cylinder's 1,2,3 and 3) 6 Spark Plugs Changed to NGK OEM Honda because P0300 code kept coming back 12) 12/2018 66,900 miles I changed cabin air filter 13) 12/20/2018 Rain water leaked into the passenger side from the moon roof because drain was plugged on the right side with dirt, used steel hanger carefully to open drain then washed both sides with soap and hot water to clean saw soap water draining from wheel wells and wet vacuumed the interior carpets and seats used baking soda and lysol to prevent mold; then noticed passenger seat soaked /wet from rain over several days, damaged when weight applied while cleaning leather was water infiltrated used hair dryer after vacuuming to dry fully; tear at outer edge of seat on Front Passenger seat tear near edge facing door was repaired on 1/7/2019 by Creative Colors International of Westchester mobile upholstery repair ; they service Car dealer cars and their quote was fair. 14) 1/9/2019 67,106 miles Millennium Honda Check Engine light P0300 code (since EGR valve change and tune up by Saj Auto 12/2017) 1) Honda did Valve Adjustment (coupon), 2) 5th Coolant Radiator flushed (2nd power)(coupon) with Honda Coolant cleared check engine light and readiness monitors reset 8 out of 8 on 1/10/2019, 4/2019 I bought DX computer to clear P0300 code.15)7/01/2019 67,471 miles 1) Millennium Honda changed all 6 Fuel injectors because P0300 came back and could not clear for inspection 5 out of 8 RM passed ; O2 monitors or Cat converter Monitors never cleared (check engine light kept coming back so they recommended Fuel injectors to be Changed) , 2)Throttle Body Air intake chemically cleaned (Coupon), , 3)Motor oil and filter changed(coupon), 4)4wheel alignment(coupon) 5) New Honda Thermostat Installed and 6)Transmission leak fixed 7/2019 2 seals replaced including transmission main seal but not engine main seal with 1 yr warranty on work. 7/2019 Poured Gumout Fuel System Cleaner, 10. Fluid_Ounces and Startron emission cleaner 2oz then P0300 code came back all the time (Carbon cleaned so expected MIL P0300 code) then stopped after next fill up and went back to normal every time 6 Readiness monitors(RM) cleared then Code P0300 came back and took it to Saj auto after I temporarily cleared MIL P0300 code using dx computer, drove it with 5 out of 8 RM then took it to Saj auto for recommendations they said keep driving so followed Honda/ Acura drive Cycle: drove 1000 miles and code kept coming back preventing Cat Monitor readiness monitor from clearing went to and I saw CataClean and read reviews and watched you tube vids on use, MIL P0300 code cleared with CataClean catalytic converter cleaner and readiness monitors reset 7 monitors out of 8 passed but after 2 days, 8 out of 8 and then when cold started using Avital remote engine starter the P0300 code came back at idle cleared it with dx computer, drove 2nd day: 7 out of 8. 16) 08/15/2019 68,111 miles Then took it to Saj auto for State Inspection passed 8/15/2019; on 08/16/2019 3rd day: 8 out of 8 17) 08/22/2019 68,148 miles Rallye Acura used coupon to complete 1) A/C refrigerant flush and fill $75, 2)They recommended changing brake calipers on the left because they were seized up. 18) 09/19/2019 1 bottle Slick 50 recharge high mile engine treatment19) 9/20/2019 P0300 Code came back when engine cold started with engine starter at idle just prior to driving reset with dx computer then drove 1st day 5 out of 8 then drove to Rockland County on 9/23/2019 and 8 out of 8 20) 09/25/2019 Saj Auto 1)Installed new radiator cap, 2) rear catalytic converter heat shield and 3)New engine splash shield 21)9/27/2019 I installed new front License plate holder old one was broken and sliding around.22) 10/10/19 Avital Engine remote starter cold started at night and Random misfire code came back always at idle reset using dx computer will start with key for now at cold start then after engine warms up; on 2nd start, will use key or engine starter but no more cold start using remote engine starter, because not sure why this triggers MIL P0300 at idle so will observe if it comes back with just key start at cold start. Also will continue to clean with CataClean every 3 months to see if this prevents/reduces the MIL P0300 code events if it continues will talk to mechanics about Engine Control Module computer problem causing the P0300 code. I read on Acura blog that if a redline event occurs on 2004 and 2005 MDX's this triggers computer to falsely indicate a random misfire code. Also they mentioned that MDX built to misfire at cold start to heat catalytic converters and the error code is false and should be Dx as a computer problem if all mechanical problems have been ruled out; remaining mechanical causes include 1)Fuel Pump failure (would cause acceleration problems , 2)O2 sensor, 3)crank sensors, 4)MAP sensors other sensors if related and 5) Contaminated gas tank (Old gunk in tank, would cause problems all the time)23) 10/17 to 10/29/2019 Saj Auto did 1) 4 Power Stop brake calipers changed and bled brake calipers, installed Power Stop Z16 ceramic performance brake pads, Power Stop crossed drilled and slotted performance rotors installed, 2) Emergency Brakes and brake cables Evaluated 3) 2 front struts and 2 rear shock changed to Gabriel Ultra: 2 Shocks G64003 and Struts Left G52140 and Right G52141. 24) Dropped off 11/13/19 Picked Up 11/15/19 Rear brake back plates left (Driver's side) removed and new one installed also New HUB, New wheel bearing Tech says old ABS speed sensor good didn't replace it, Clips, Did not change OEM emergency brake shoe and Brake cable; in good condition. Work on rear brake back plate left side completed at Empire Advantage Honda . Will find local mechanic to change rear brake back plate right side, New Wheel HUB, New Wheel Bearing , eval right ABS speed sensor after Wheel bearing removed if sensor doesn't need change will leave alone.. Will store right back plate in garage till summer.25) 11/17/2019 2nd time in 3 month intervals poured Cataclean into fuel tank to clean catalytic converter and fuel system. Also replaced plastic engine cover decorative caps middle lower cap.26) 11/25/19 Replaced windshield wipers with Michelin Cyclone hybrid wipers size 24" and 21". ................
