LI.5 The student will connect information about the Latin language and Roman culture with concepts studied in other subject areas.

LESSON OBJECTIVE:

• The students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of Stage 14 vocabulary by reviewing vocabulary and taking a quiz.

• The students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of characters in Stage 14 stories by completing a worksheet and using the stage stories.

TASK ANALYSIS:

Do the students know Stage 14 vocab? (yes)

Do the students know adjective noun agreement? (possibly)

Do the students know the culture for Stage 14? (possibly)

KEY TERMS: vocabulary, Stage 14, “Quintus advenit,” noun, adjective, agreement

SEQUENCE OF THE LESSON

Anticipatory Set:

• Review for vocabulary quiz using “VINCO”

• Students write the Latin vocabulary words in the squares

• Call out English words for students

• First person to win gets +5, second, +4, third +3, and rest of class gets +2 on quiz

Teacher Input:

• Go over WB 14.8-exemplum quaere- as a class after elbow partners

• Sight-reading “Quintus advenit”

• Go over worksheet with characters as a class

Modeling:

• Show students how to set up “VINCO” board

• Translating sentences

Checks for Understanding:

• When going over “Who’s who and what’s what” worksheet ask questions about stories to review all stories

• WB 14.8 ask how they know noun/adjective forms, prepositions, etc.

Guided Practice:

• Translating “Quintus advenit” together as a class

Independent Practice:

• Vocabulary quiz

• Elbow-partners to review answers for homework before going over as a class

• “Who’s who and what’s where?” worksheet 14.11 (individual)

• 3-2-1 closure

• Homework: p. 38 pt. C

Closure:

• 3-2-1—3 things they remember about adjectives, 2 things they remember about prepositions, 1 thing they are still unsure about

DIFFERENTIATION

• Auditory- hearing the words in “Vinco,” discussing worksheet with partners, hearing story

• Visual-“Vinco”board, the worksheet, the book

• Social-going over workbook page with a partner and then as a class, sight reading as a class
