A letter from the President....

Time to remind everyone that: It's never too early to think about renewing your UMECRA membership. During the months of September, October and November, you can renew your membership and it is good through the next ride season. It is kind of a bonus for new members who join during these months but current members can take advantage of this too. Renewing now may be more convenient than waiting until the ride season is over and you're more likely to forget.

The 2022 Annual Meeting and Convention is planned for January 21st ? 23rd at the La Crescent Best Western Convention Center in La Crescent, Mn. Theresa Meyer is coordinating this year's convention and will have information about rooms, speakers and additional information concerning the convention in upcoming newsletters. If you would like to volunteer to help with this year's festivities, you can contact Theresa at thmeyer753@

Interested in mentoring a new member? We are always looking for members willing to be listed on the UMECRA web-site as possible mentors to new members/riders. Being a mentor is a great way to give back to the sport of distance riding and new members who have experienced a mentorship are much more likely to stay in the sport for a long time. If you are interested in mentoring and willing to have your name added to our mentors list, please contact Nicole Mauser-Storer, our web-site coordinator, at n.mauser@huskers.unl.edu.

If you are thinking of nominating anyone for either the Shining Light Award or for the UMECRA Hall of Fame, you should be writing

up your nominations now. These awards are determined at the November Board of Directors meeting. It is important that the board has all nominations prior to that meeting so that all nominees are considered at the same time and potential awards can be arranged in time should someone be selected to receive an award. Nomination forms can be found on the UMECRA web-site under the "Results" tab and clicking on "available awards." Nominations should be sent directly to the UMECRA President, jwagner288@wi.

Lastly, anyone interested in applying for a UMECRA Scholarship needs to do so by the November 18th deadline. This scholarship fund was established way back in 1996 by former WI members Ray and Audrey Gehrig. These scholarship opportunities are open to any UMECRA member seeking post high school educational study in at least a two-year program. Applicants must have at least two years membership in UMECRA and have participated in at least 25 rides sponsored by UMECRA. Rules & Bylaws Suggestions or Changes

As we are now nearing the end of our competition season, and the November Board Meeting is weeks away, it is time to submit any rule or bylaw change suggestions to the Rules & Bylaws Committee. This committee takes those suggestions, looks at current and sometimes past language, AERC language when appropriate and takes into consideration horse welfare, and other issues in crafting language to make sure your idea is presented to the Board of Directors at the November meeting.
