Welcome! Wherever you are on your journey of faith, there is a place for you here.

You are invited to participate fully in worship and to receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist, the consecrated bread and wine. Everything you need is in this Bulletin, the Book of Common Prayer, the blue Hymnal 1982, and Lift Every Voice and Sing (LEVAS).

Children are joyfully welcome at Holy Communion. Should you desire it, professional childcare for those 3 and under is available downstairs in the nursery. There is a kids’ space in the back of the worship space with toys and room for children to get out their wiggles. Children aged 3 to 7 may attend Children’s Chapel. Led by a trained adult, this summer program includes a Scripture based video and games. The children leave after the opening prayers and return after the prayers of the people.  Parents are always welcome to attend.  Children are our today and our tomorrow!

Restrooms are located in the lounge, and downstairs near the kitchen entrance, and elevator.

Many worshippers engage in quiet prayer before the service begins, so please be sensitive; and please silence cell phones and pagers.

Collect for the Day

Grant to us, Lord, we pray, the spirit to think and do always those things that are right, that we, who cannot exist without you, may by you be enabled to live according to your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Those attending Children’s Church meet the acolyte at the main door at the front of the church. They will return for the Peace.

Lesson Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16 seated

To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see.

It was by their faith that people of ancient times won God's approval. It is by faith that we understand that the universe was created by God's word, so that what can be seen was made out of what cannot be seen. It was faith that made Abraham obey when God called him to go out to a country which God had promised to give him. He left his own country without knowing where he was going. By faith he lived as a foreigner in the country that God had promised him. He lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who received the same promise from God. For Abraham was waiting for the city which God has designed and built, the city with permanent foundations.

It was faith that made Abraham able to become a father, even though he was too old and Sarah herself could not have children. He trusted God to keep his promise. Though Abraham was practically dead, from this one man came as many descendants as there are stars in the sky, as many as the numberless grains of sand on the seashore.

It was in faith that all these persons died. They did not receive the things God had promised, but from a long way off they saw them and welcomed them, and admitted openly that they were foreigners and refugees on earth. Those who say such things make it clear that they are looking for a country of their own. They did not keep thinking about the country they had left; if they had, they would have had the chance to return. Instead, it was a better country they longed for, the heavenly country. And so God is not ashamed for them to call him their God, because he has prepared a city for them.

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people. Thanks be to God.

Gradual Psalm 33:12-22

Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord!

happy the people he has chosen to be his own!

The Lord looks down from heaven,

and beholds all the people in the world

From where he sits enthroned he turns his gaze

on all who dwell on the earth.

He fashions all the hearts of them

and understands all their works.

Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear him,

on those who wait upon his love,

To pluck their lives from death,

and to feed them in time of famine.

Our soul waits for the Lord;

he is our help and our shield.

Indeed, our heart rejoices in him,

for in his holy Name we put our trust.

Let your loving-kindness, O Lord, be upon us,

as we have put our trust in you.

Gospel Luke 12:32-40 standing

The Gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ, according to Luke

Glory to you Lord Christ

Jesus said, "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the Kingdom. Sell all your belongings and give the money to the poor. Provide for yourselves purses that don't wear out, and save your riches in heaven, where they will never decrease, because no thief can get to them, and no moth can destroy them. For your heart will always be where your riches are.

“Be ready for whatever comes, dressed for action and with your lamps lit, like servants who are waiting for their master to come back from a wedding feast. When he comes and knocks, they will open the door for him at once. How happy are those servants whose master finds them awake and ready when he returns! I tell you, he will take off his coat, have them sit down, and will wait on them. How happy they are if he finds them ready, even if he should come at midnight or even later!

“And you can be sure that if the owner of a house knew the time when the thief would come, he would not let the thief break into his house. And you, too, must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you are not expecting him."

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

Sermon seated

Nicene Creed standing

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father*, who with the Father and the Son is

worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

God of all mercy, we confess that we have sinned against you, opposing your will in our lives. We have denied your goodness in each other, in ourselves, and in the world you have created. We repent of the evil that enslaves us, the evil we have done, and the evil done on our behalf. Forgive, restore, and strengthen us through our Savior Jesus Christ, that we may abide in your love and serve only your will. Amen

Presentation of the Offering Hymnal 380:3 standing

Eucharistic Prayer A

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give him thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and every-

where to give thanks to you, God Almighty, Creator of

heaven and earth.

Here a Proper Preface is said

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and

Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever

sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

[pic]

Holy and gracious God: In your infinite love you made us

for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become

subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus

Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human

nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the

God and Creator of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our

Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks

to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take,

eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the

remembrance of me."

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given

thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you:

This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you

and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink

it, do this for the remembrance of me."

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Christ has died.

Christ is risen.

Christ will come again.

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O God, in

this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death,

resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the

Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new

and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully

receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy,

and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints

into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and

with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor

and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN.

Lord's Prayer Prayer Book 364

Breaking of the Bread

We break this bread to share in the Body of Christ.

We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread.

Administration of the Sacrament

Postcommunion Prayer standing or kneeling

Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image and nourishing us with spiritual food in the sacrament of Christ's Body and Blood. Now send us forth a people forgiven, healed, renewed; that we may proclaim your love to the world and continue in the risen life of Christ our Savior. Amen.
