Accounting plays a critical role in the operation of an organization. For every business, it is important that the financial information of the business activities is being kept up-to-date and monitored by the organization. PROBLEM STATEMENT Due to the dynamic nature of the technology and its major positive impact on decision making which has turned the world into a global village, there is the need for organization to take on a computerized accounting system. In spite of the numerous benefits reaped by organizations in the advanced countries through computerizing their accounting systems, many organizations in Ghana have failed to take advantage of the technology. OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDYTo identify the kind of accounting software system adopted by Volta River AuthorityTo access the extent to which a computerized accounting system affects the organization’s productivity.CHAPTER TWOLITERATURE REVIEWThis chapter reviews the available literature related to the research topic and discusses the theories on the effects of computerization of accounting system on business performance. In order to describe how the research was organized and its outcome.BACKGROUND OF THE STATEMENTOn April 26, 1961, the Volta River Authority (VRA) was established with the mandate to generate, transmit and distribute electricity under the Volta River Development Act, Act 46 of the Republic of Ghana. It is a body corporate comprising a board which is appointed by government and consists of a chairman, the chief executive of the authority and six other members including a person experience in financial matters and two representatives of the major consumers of the electrical power generated by the authority.ACCOUNTING SYSTEMAn accounting system can be defined in various ways as follows: It is the business papers, records and procedures used by a business in recording transaction and reporting their effects. According to Wilkinson (1999), accounting system is an integrated framework within a firm that employs physical resources to transform economic data into financial information for operating and managing the firm’s activity and reporting the firm’s achievements to interested parties. DATA PROCESSING Wilkinson (1999) points out that, the numerous data generated by a business is not useful until processed. Business must routinely process these data in an orderly and efficient manner to accomplish its intended purpose.CHAPTER THREEMETHODOLOGYThis chapter describes how the research was conducted. The chapter contains the research framework, sample size and limitation, sampling technique, data collection instrument, data collection activities as well as method of data analysis.RESEARCH FRAMEWORKThis study is a case study type of research which enables the problem to be identified and studied into detail within a limited time scale. The research identified the tremendous impact computerization has on accounting systems in the energy sector specifically in Volta River Authority (V.R.A).POPULATION/SAMPLE The sample frame for the research comprise of staff s and management at the Accounts department and information technology (IT) department of Volta River Authority.SAMPLING TECHNIQUEThe researchers employed purposive sampling techniques in selecting respondents for the purpose of the study. That is to say that, respondent was targeted base on the fact that, they have the information needed for the study. ................
