Garage Sale, April 24 - - Right Around the Corner!

by Dave Steele

Before you forget or put it off until tomorrow, sit down now and fill out the registration form for the annual neighborhood garage sale. The sale will be held on Saturday, April 24 from 8 am to 1 pm. Don’t procrastinate. Mail in your registration and $10 check to our Treasurer by April 16; see registration below.

As a registrant, you will receive a garage sale kit with a “Garage Sale” sign, stickers for marking prices on items, balloons, garage sale tip sheet, etc. Balloons can be filled with helium the morning of the sale at either William Dietrich Park (corner of Stoney Point & N. Cirby) or Maidu Elementary School at 1950 Johnson Ranch Drive. You will also have your location marked on our neighborhood map which is handed out to shoppers entering the neighborhood. Registrants are entered into a raffle for great prizes donated by local merchants. There will be ads in the Sacramento Bee, the Pennysaver, the Roseville Press Tribune, and Craigslist. You can also indicate on your form if you want pick-up service of unsold garage sale items. You will receive a donation receipt for your unsold items.

Thank you for supporting our major revenue-generating event. Everybody benefits from the garage sale. This event helps us to fund the free lunch served at the park clean-up, the free movie in the park night, refreshments and sponsorship of National Night Out, Santa visit, etc. All our events contribute toward making Maidu a great neighborhood in which to live.

Real Estate Market Update Presentation

by Melinda Shrader

Did you miss the market update presentation on March 23? During the discussion, I talked about short sales, bank foreclosures, trustee sales, normal real estate transactions, loan changes, and I gave an overview to the inventory versus buyer demand. I also reviewed the current active listings, pending sales, and sold properties within our immediate neighborhood.

If you would like a copy of the information handout package, please call me. You can reach me, Melinda Shrader, your neighborhood realtor, Coldwell Banker Real Estate, at (916) 773-7535 and/or e- mail me at melinda.shrader@. I will be happy to send you a copy of the information we reviewed during the meeting and provide you with an update of our real estate market. If you are considering your options regarding selling your home in our current market, please don’t hesitate to give me

a call. I can assist you. My Department of Real Estate License number is 00994757.

Spring Used Book Sale

The Friends of the Roseville Public Library have been collecting books during the month of March for their spring book sale which is Saturday, April 24, from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday, April 25, from noon to 4 pm. You may have noticed the collection bin in the lobby of the Maidu Library.

The sale is at the Martha Riley Community Library at 1501 Pleasant Grove Boulevard. There is an especially large collection of children’s books and teen books, and the first hour on Saturday is designated for children only in the Kid’s Korner. Children's books are priced at $0.25. Adult books are $1 for hardbacks and $0.50 for paperbacks. There are great bargains to be found and you'll be helping our community libraries. City Charter Review Commission Recommendations

A year ago, the Roseville City Council appointed a Charter Review Commission to review the City Charter and make recommendations to the City Council on changes to appear on the November 2010 ballot for voter approval. No public meetings were held to learn what the voting public would like to see on the ballot.

If the Commission’s Final Report is accepted by the City Council, voters in November will be asked to approve some minor, innocuous changes, nothing substantial.

Would you like to see some major changes to the Charter? Would you like to have the option to vote on important changes? How about having the City divided into districts with each district represented by a Council Member? How about having any mid-term vacancy filled by the runner-up in the election rather than by appointment? How about increasing the number of Council members? How about reasonable campaign limits for Council members? We won’t be voting on these issues if the Council accepts the Commission’s Report as is.

If you would like to present your opinions/comments to the City Council on this issue or just be in attendance to view the process, come to the City Council meeting on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at 7:00 pm. There will be a public comment period where residents can address the Council. The Council meets at the City Council Chambers, 311 Vernon Street, Roseville.
