Final Film Presentation – Proposal

FINAL FILM PRESENTATION—PERMISSION and PROPSOSAL

For your final project for Introduction to Film, you will provide an analytical presentation of a clip from a film of significant cinematic merit. This assignment is designed to illustrate your cumulative filmic knowledge and critical viewing skills. The film you select must be from the American Film Institute’s 1997 List of 100 Top Films, the AFI’s 2007 List of Top 100 Films, or the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry. The clip you choose to present should be approximately five minutes and must be essential to the film’s narrative AND stylistic purposes. Your scene must also be appropriate classroom viewing and not previously viewed in class. If you have ANY questions about the appropriateness of your clip, consult with me early and directly. Please be aware that I may ask to screen your clip before your presentation date. Also, be aware that the presentation of an inappropriate clip will prompt an early conclusion to the project, thereby severely affecting the evaluative outcome. Ask me about films you have in mind or check out the links to AFI and the National Film Registry on my teacher page. You should obtain your film (check public libraries, Netflix mail service, YouTube etc.) ASAP to allow yourself time to screen and prepare. Keep in mind you will need the clip to be available as you prepare AND when you present (I can’t stream in class. If you use YouTube, you need to download your clip—try KeepVid). If you have issues or concerns, please speak with me.
