All About Me

All About Me

Each child in first grade is going to have a day to bring in an All About Me poster to share with the class. The purpose of the poster is to build self-esteem, verbal skills and meet some of the first grade common core standards for speaking. The learning targets for this project are:

• I can describe people, places, things, and events with relevant details, expressing ideas and feelings clearly.

• I can add drawings or other visual displays to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings.

• I can produce complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation.

• I can demonstrate chronological thinking by distinguishing among past, present and future family events.

Your child will be assessed on this presentation. I will be looking for:

• eye contact-looking at the audience

• volume-speaking loudly and clearly

• presentation should last at least 30 seconds

• neatness of poster

You will receive a reminder note the week before your child is to bring his or her poster. The poster is to be completed at home with input from other family members. Your child’s poster should be divided into 3 clearly labeled sections: past, present and future.

On your child’s poster you may be as creative as you wish to tell about your family interests. You can use photographs, magazine pictures, drawings, awards, etc.

Topics that may give you some ideas for the poster are:

Family Baby pictures/pictures from the past

Pets What makes you happy

Things you like Favorite books

Vacations Favorite TV shows or movies

Favorite foods What you would like to do/future career

I hope that your family enjoys this activity. The children enjoy sharing the posters and are always very proud! I will look forward to having your child share with us! Please remember to have your child practice looking at his or her audience and speaking loudly at home! If your child is absent on his or her day plan on bringing the poster in on the day they return to school.
