Outreach & Education

We have been invited to participate in a celebration for Pancreatic Cancer survivors. This celebration is being sponsored by Siteman and is open to anyone who has Pancreatic Cancer, their caregivers and survivors. You do not have to be treated at Siteman. We will have an information table and have been invited to make a presentation about our work.

 Join the Siteman Cancer Center and The Wellness Community of Greater St. Louis for a Pancreatic Cancer Survivor and Caregiver Workshop. Learn how to enhance your daily life or caregiver skills while gaining a better understanding of pancreatic cancer diagnosis and treatment. During the day attend educational and supportive workshop sessions facilitated by experts. Some session topics include: movement and sleep, money skills and caregiver coaching. Also, have a chance to talk with survivors during a survivor panel discussion. Lunch will be provided. Don’t miss the victory reception that will conclude the day. Local physicians and healthcare professionals will be there to help celebrate all the survivors and caregivers in attendance! Maris also asks those who have volunteered to drop off materials at hospitals, to bring or email her your completed forms. 

St. Louis Magazine - Joayne

Give-Receive Program: St. Louis Magazine is offering a benefit that if we purchase subscriptions at $18/year, then we get $6 of the subscription. They also will promote our events in the magazine. Get a form and sign up online via our website , or thanks to Tom Morgan, a print copy is attached.

Monday August 24th at the Landings at Spirit $150/person, $600/foursome. $25 for lunch and $50 for dinner for those who are not golfing.

August 10 is/was the deadline for signing up to play golf. If someone still wants to go, please contact Sue Yedlin sueyedlin@ . We may have space, but the order for shirts will have been made.

Event Day Activities (tentative) – Sunday October 18th in Forest Park:

6:00 am – volunteers begin setup in Forest Park by the Muny

8:00 am – registration begins

9:00 am – event kickoff – brief 9:15 am – walk/run begins!

Participants can choose from 1 mile or 5K routes

Afterwards – music, coffee/snacks, and mingling! Corporate Sponsors:

In-kind Donations: We are looking for in-kind donations of the following items at this time: water, coffee, snack items. Please contact Janet Scuito jsciuto@ with any leads or ideas. Thank you to Kathy Casten for the donation of drinks. We need a name and address from Kathy for the acknowledgement.

Volunteers on Event Day: We are looking for volunteers for the event day. Please sign up at under “Volunteer Registration” on the left hand side. The Volunteer Coordinator is Phyllis Pitts-Kolb pitts-kolb@ & Gloria Bilchik Gloria822@ .

FLYER DISTRIBUTION: Bring thumbtacks & tape with you. Places that have community boards include: Starbucks, Khaldis, Bread Cos. Also Running and athletic stores keep information on walks and runs. Many groceries also have community boards to promote the event. Other ideas include making a copy of the cover of “The Last Lecture” and a note saying something like “Randy Pausch died of Pancreatic Cancer and support PanCAN. Will you?” Then thumb tack copies of the brochure next to picture. Also, if using a poster, make information sheets where people can tear off information with website address .

Happy Hours

• September 16th at the Trainwreck Saloon in Rock Hill on Manchester Road

• $10 admission, we do not get a percentage of the food and beverage bill, so the $10 will be a donation to PanCAN. Everyone, including affiliate members must pay the admission fee to participate.

• Will promote the walk and plan to hand out t-shirts.  INVITE YOUR PURPLE STRIDE TEAM TO THIS HAPPY HOUR!

• Please join us, we need to be the ambassadors and make our guest feel welcome

• November 10th (also Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month) at the Ritz Carlton in Clayton Mark you Calendars - Meeting Schedule at Shaare Emeth (corner of Ballas and Ladue Roads).
